Rolling Perspective: A messy glimpse at the future
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-messy-glimpse-at-future.html
Tuesday, June 16, 2015. A messy glimpse at the future. It’s been said that if you want to see tomorrow, you need look no further than the youth of today. And while there are plenty of people out there who will tell you that, based on the Millennials, we have much to fear; I disagree. In fact, my experience interacting with the upcoming generation leads me to believe they are smart and capable. What’s more, they are good and should be celebrated, which is exactly what I did. Both are messy and both are fun.

Rolling Perspective: July 2015
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. An angel in our midst. When I was 13 years old, my doctors told me I had to have major corrective back surgery. Because of my muscular dystrophy, the muscles in my back had weakened and my spinal cord curved so severely it was shaped like an “S” and was compressing my lungs and my heart. I was told the surgery would take 12 hours, it would be extremely painful and recovery would take months. The news was terrifying. As you can imagine, the drive home was pretty rough. And then it h...

Rolling Perspective: Homeward bound
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015/06/homeward-bound.html
Monday, June 29, 2015. When Casey and I were first married, our plan was to live on the East Coast for about a year and a half and then move back to California where we’re both originally from. However, as we got closer to that timeframe, I got a feeling inside me that we should stay put. Because the impression persisted, I approached my sweet wife and shared it with her – we were a partnership and would decide all things together. I was just waiting for you to say something.”. And the answer came. Richa...

Rolling Perspective: More than just a day
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015/06/more-than-just-day.html
Sunday, June 21, 2015. More than just a day. I woke up this morning to the sounds of quarreling children, nothing big, but definitely arguing. And while that would normally bother me, today it didn’t. After all, today is Father’s Day and those are my kids, my angels, my heart’s sweet delight. And because they’re mine, and I’m their father, I’m the luckiest guy alive. But, for me, Father’s Day was not always a day to celebrate. In fact, it was often a reminder of a day I would have much preferred to forget.

Rolling Perspective: April 2014
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 29, 2014. A few years ago we took the girls to see a movie called Dolphin Tale, which tells the story of Winter, a dolphin who was rescued after getting trapped in a fishing net. Because of the injuries she sustained, Winter’s tail was amputated and she was fitted with a first-of-its-kind prosthetic. Amazingly, she learned to thrive and, despite her disability, continues to do remarkably well. Ever since the movie came out, the girls ( led by Casey. In addition to dolphins, they’ve a...

Rolling Perspective: May 2014
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Quit give up you’re beaten they shout out in my face. There’s just too much against you now, this time you can’t succeed. And as I start to hang my head in front of failure’s face,. My downward fall is broken by the memory of a race. A children’s race, young boys, young men; how I remember well,. Excitement sure, but also fear, it wasn’t hard to tell. They all lined up so full of hope, each thought to win that race. Or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place.

Rolling Perspective: A New York state of mind
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-new-york-state-of-mind.html
Thursday, June 18, 2015. A New York state of mind. New York means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Some see it as a melting pot, others as a financial capital and others still as the bright lights of Times Square, but for me, New York is all about one thing; love. When Casey and I met, she lived with my sister right across the river from Manhattan on Roosevelt Island. Because I lived and worked in DC we almost never got to see each other during the week. 12 years have passed since ...

Rolling Perspective: December 2014
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Proof that nothing is so sweet as the pure love and excitement of children at Christmas time. Merry Christmas from the Taylors :). Thursday, December 11, 2014. Nearly 12 years ago, I was blessed with a very special gift. Although I recognized its obvious value immediately, like any newly wed, I wouldn’t be able to truly appreciate it until after we had been together for the long haul. But now it’s gone and I simply cannot believe it. But here’s why. Before we knew it, my mom h...

Rolling Perspective: February 2015
http://rollingperspective.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. As a child, the worst part of going to church was having to wait for what felt like an eternity for my mom to finish talking to her friends so we could finally go home. Despite my pleadings with her to wrap it up, we were almost always among the last congregants to leave. These days, services are in the afternoon and they go for three hours, which means that just like when I was a kid, I try to bounce out shortly after the last “amen.”. Such was the case last week. 8220;OK swee...
