The HMCS Cape Breton. The HMCS Cape Breton at over 400ft (120m) in length, is one of the largest naval vessels ever purposely sunk, to make an artificial reef. It was scuttled on Oct.20/2001 just off Snake Island near Nanaimo, BC. The ship came to rest upright with its keel at 140ft (42m), and the deck at around 70ft (21m). Strictly accessed by boat, this artificial reef is only minutes away from the wreck of the HMCS Saskatchewan, and is almost as good a dive. Is marked with a single buoy. (see Link).

This is an advanced level dive do to the potential for extreme currents and boat traffic in this tight little water way, and can only be accessed as a boat dive. To do this dive it is strongly recommended that you follow an up to date, Canadian Tide and Current Tables, volume 5, Juan de Fuca Straight and Straight of Georgia.
