Joel A. Nichols. Gay writing, queer writing, queer sf, queer erotica. Wednesday, April 25. Is That Post-Structuralism In Your Pants? Or are you just happy to see me? Last night I got my copies of Dorm Porn 2. Which has my story "Cultural Studies." It's a story about an eager wrestler who doesn't want to fail and his weak-willed graduate student instructor who lets himself be taken advantage of. (And it's hot! There are also fantastic stories from Shane Allison, Rachel Kramer Bussel. Joel A. Nichols.

On Writing, Bartending, and Being a Single Dad. Friday, June 02, 2006. Okay, There Is One Picture . My mom snapped one before the recital began. You can't see Mia's pink tutu, and in fact I'm wondering exactly what was going on here to result in such an odd composition . but here you go. Posted by Nathan @ 11:29 PM. Thursday, June 01, 2006. Walk again, so I don't know what everyone's getting all worked up about. You won't be seeing those pages. Anyway . just finished a new, and I hope better, story c...

On Writing, Bartending, and Being a Single Dad. Monday, April 24, 2006. A Brief Visit to New Orleans. Last week, after dropping Mia off at her mom's for spring break, I drove on through to New Orleans. It was the first time I'd seen the place since leaving last June, which was of course before Katrina hit. I'd been warned that the place was still in rough shape; but. I thought. It's been over. How bad can it be? You're just a tourist with a typewriter, Barton. I. You've all seen the pictures anyway. ...

On Writing, Bartending, and Being a Single Dad. Monday, March 20, 2006. A Tense Couple of Weeks. If it seems I've dropped out of my own life the past couple of weeks, it's because the time for signing divorce and custody papers has arrived, and lately there has been some unexpected wrangling over custody issues. With luck and good judgement they will be settled very shortly, with Mia's best interests guiding us all. It has put literally everything else on the backburner, though. Friday, March 10, 2006.

On Writing, Bartending, and Being a Single Dad. Monday, July 03, 2006. Catching Up Again . Let's see, what's happened over the past month? Mia is visiting her mom for the summer in Alabama, where she's having a great time. She turned six just a few days ago. Six! In a month she'll be starting first grade! I could handle kindergarten; it was the start of school, yeah, but kindergarten inspired pride, and lots of. Oh my God isn't that cute. That's hard core, man! She's not a baby anymore; she's an actual.

Here There be Whales: 12/01/2007 - 01/01/2008

Here There be Whales. This is not just some hipster's online diary. This is a whole other kind of ephemera. Saturday, December 29, 2007. Aside from not writing, I've been enjoying my time off from classes. I've shuttled back and forth between here and Philly a couple of times, spent days hanging around with old friends, drunk enough coffee to bathe an infant. And there's at least three weeks left for adventuring and so much to see. Wednesday, December 19, 2007. What do you read? It's a sin, frankly, beca...

Here There be Whales: Experimental Skillet
http://heretherebewhales.blogspot.com/2008/03/experimental-skillet.html
Here There be Whales. This is not just some hipster's online diary. This is a whole other kind of ephemera. Sunday, March 02, 2008. One of my more interesting classes this semester is a course in experimental writing with David Plante. The original title for the class was "The Short Story," but basically every class David Plante teaches that isn't workshop becomes experimental writing. Which is lovely, actually, since it's had me writing a great deal without worrying too much about what I'm saying. Enjoy...

Here There be Whales. This is not just some hipster's online diary. This is a whole other kind of ephemera. Sunday, July 29, 2007. Not Dead, I Swear. Sorry for the long hiatus. I have no good excuse, except that, what with the impending move, I've been suffering from a bit of verbal paralysis. I've noticed this about myself: when I get stressed, I tend to freeze up on the writing front a bit. That's a great trait for a guy about to enter graduate school for writing. Anyway, it's kept me from writing.
