An insight into the life of Julian E. Obubo. There was an error in this gadget. Saturday, September 25, 2010. The Autobiography of Malcolm X. I've said before that reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X was a life changing experience. Malcolm X is one of the most studied and misunderstood American cultural icons, and his story, although that of a black man born in Nebraska in 1925 resonated with a young Nigerian boy born in 1988 and living in Holland. I urge you all to have a listen, it's enlightening.

An insight into the life of Julian E. Obubo. There was an error in this gadget. Thursday, December 17, 2009. Dreaming of a White Christmas: The Awkwardness of European notions of Christmas in a Nigerian Setting. I remember when I was about 14, sitting around with some American friends (in school in the Netherlands) discussing Christmas, one of them asked another at what age they stopped believing in Santa Claus. I was taken aback, was this some kind of joke, did people actually believe. This ownership of...

An insight into the life of Julian E. Obubo. There was an error in this gadget. Saturday, July 07, 2012. I've Been Neglecting You. Part I. It's been 10 months since I last updated my blog. That is SLACKING! Fast forward to January 2012, I'm sitting on a couch, playing with a little child in a little house in a little village in western Germany. The kid is transfixed by The Gruffalo playing on the TV, so I take the time to check my e-mail. I see this:. I felt like this inside. And did I get it? Part II co...

The Daily Grind: I am Malcolm X !

An insight into the life of Julian E. Obubo. There was an error in this gadget. Sunday, February 21, 2010. I am Malcolm X! His fiery rhetoric and unwillingness to conform to the accepted 'discourse' of the 'Negro-issue' meant since his death in 1965, the establishment has tried to erase his impact and his wisdom, but thankfully his memory has been persistent and resistant and his words still inspire many today. 45 years on, Malcolm X still lives. An insight into the life of Julian E. Obubo. There was an error in this gadget. Sunday, January 16, 2011. Strange Things I Do Or Think. 1- I don't like the sound of my voice when it's recorded (I sound like a walrus with a cold)*. 2- I'm a bit peeved when people don't capitalize the first letters of my name, or anyone's name for that matter. 3- I occasionally have dreams where I'm awake but my body is completely paralyzed (freaks me out) (later edit- it's not a dream, it's Sleep Paralysis. 9- I've been t...

Charity begins at home. There was the customary greeting of guests which was a bit of a ritual, it involved us kids coming, either en masse or one by one to greet the guest. Sometimes, if we didn’t have any soft drinks, or beer at home we were sent to go get some cold ones from next door. All play and no work makes Jack a dull boy.

I can feel her cold palm in mine. We've been here for about an hour now. We haven't said a word. I look into her eyes. Like I've done countless times before. And in them, I see something essential to my survival. She doesn't complement, No, she completes me. A peculiar sum, one plus one equals one. The train pulls up. Saturday, N...
