This lovely nineteenth century ghost sign appeared on a construction site in Melbourne in early 2013. It was painted around 1890 for an ambitious Victorian doctor. I find ghost signs fascinating because of the gap that opens up for the imagination between what we know and what has been lost. This picture was taken at the Williamstown Literary Festival on 13 June 2015, where along with a group of fellow writers and musicians I participated in the Saturday evening event, Stereostories. I read my story based on the Massive Attack song ‘Protection’, with musicians Reuben (percussion) and Pete Maskell (guitar and vocals) playing the song superbly. Applying for a Residency. A Varuna Invitation-by-Request Residency offers peaceful writing accommodation with independent writing time and the opportunity to work within a community of writers. As with all our writing residencies, Invitees are expected to work in a self-directed manner on a project.
