Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Vascular Anomalies

Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Vascular Anomalies. A n investigation into the secret mysteries of life. The goal of this international scientific project is to better understand, at a molecular and cellular level, the development of vascular anomalies in humans. When we can comprehend the processes that lead to abnormally large blood vessels, we will also better understand the complex system of human growth and development.

Vascular Anomalies Project: About Vascular Anomalies

http://vascularanomalies.hsdm.harvard.edu/aboutva.html

Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Vascular Anomalies. What are vascular anomalies? Vascular anomalies form when these cells do not receive the proper signals. Blood vessels form in the wrong place, in the wrong size, and with the incorrect relationship between the endothelium and the smooth muscle tissue around the blood vessels. Anomalies can be as small as simple birthmarks that many people have, or can grow into large tangles of blood vessels that can grow, disfigure, and even become fatal.
