Common Sense Is Not So Common. Saturday, September 22, 2012. Recently, the teachers in the Chicago Public Schools held a strike, and did not teach for a week and a half. Students were sent to alternative "day care centers", where they spent their days doing who knows what as they waited for the adults to get their stuff together and return to their jobs. Teachers said it had nothing to do with money, but all I could hear was "we want our raises! And "we have to pay for our own books and it isn't fair!
