Vegetable Heaven

Growing and eating lovely food. Trying something different. Saving seeds, breeding my own varieties. Gardening isn't dull! Wednesday, 15 May 2013. I've not got much to show on the allotment yet, as many of the plants to go out there are still in the greenhouse. Runner, and French beans, Mangetout and podding peas, and the only recently sown courgettes ans achochas are all waiting for June. It's never worth sowing or planting out too early here. Me too dark to take pictures. I took this just because I lik...

Vegetable Heaven: April 2013

http://vegheaven.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Growing and eating lovely food. Trying something different. Saving seeds, breeding my own varieties. Gardening isn't dull! Thursday, 25 April 2013. A few pictures around the village - this is one of the barrels outside the village hall. There's a clematis on that trellis behind. Here's our village bench, bought from a Red Nose Day grant a couple of years back. It's by the bus stop so it's often used. Thursday, 18 April 2013. I would normally have sown these broad beans direct but the allotment soil was s...

Vegetable Heaven: Spring (allegedly)

http://vegheaven.blogspot.com/2013/03/spring-allegedly.html

Growing and eating lovely food. Trying something different. Saving seeds, breeding my own varieties. Gardening isn't dull! Wednesday, 6 March 2013. Jezebel, a proper little madam, is furtling around on the newly dug patch, clearing it of worms. At one point four of the five hens were in the same patch I was digging. I was hard pressed not to spear a chicken with my fork. I spent more time laughing than digging though. They are a delight. Hello you - nice to see you out of blog hibernation! PS: pretty ple...

Vegetable Heaven: Crossing peas

http://vegheaven.blogspot.com/p/crossing-peas.html

Growing and eating lovely food. Trying something different. Saving seeds, breeding my own varieties. Gardening isn't dull! In 2008 I bought the book Breed your own Vegetable Varieties by Carol Deppe. In the pure spirit of 'what would happen if? I made a cross between Lancashire Lad, the first purple podded pea I grew and Oregon Sugar Pod, a mangetout or snow pea. In 2010 I have a long row of F2 offspring and I'm eagerly waiting for chance to taste them! So far the shorter ones have purple flowers which a...

Vegetable Heaven: Tomato un-hybrids

http://vegheaven.blogspot.com/p/tomato-un-hybrids.html

Growing and eating lovely food. Trying something different. Saving seeds, breeding my own varieties. Gardening isn't dull! These are un-hybrids of Berry F1. The large and gorgeous one cut open shows it has white flesh inside and it was bland and flavourless. A bit like winter supermarket toms! The strawberry shaped one was much nicer, good flavour, and is being grown on in 2010. In 2010 there will be Sungold F4 and Berry F3. Watch this space for updates. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Garden Adventures: December 2010

http://gardengirl-gardenadventures.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Family life, in and out of the garden. Sunday, 12 December 2010. The sunsets have been extraordinary recently. Monday, 6 December 2010. We had a big thaw over the weekend (yay! And the roads are mostly clear, and so with the prospect of the snow actually going and the fact that the roads in the countryside were navigable we thought we'd better get out there and enjoy it while it lasted! So we went out in search of a big hill to slide down. And we found one. But it is Very Cold:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Hazel and Jane's allotment. Welcome to our plot! Oak Tree Quilts: January 2011

http://oaktree-quilts.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

My Quilts and (Many! Friday, 28 January 2011. I've been very lucky of late, we had a bag raffle last night at my quilt group and I won this beautiful bag. It's made using the Japanese folded patchwork technique and results in a very pretty bag in a very useful shape. I can see this being used for library books or something like that. I think the fabric is from the Awesome range by Sandie Gervais (Moda). When you hang out with quilters, you get quilts! In my favourite colours, pieced by Bilbo. I'm a quilt...

Have I hit the gardening 'wall'? Okay, enough of the dreadful poetry, but it's true, it's 2 months since my last post, and I don't feel much further on than I was then.
