Stranger's Fever: July 2005
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 25, 2005. Have finally calmed down enough to write this. Things have gone badly today, they may yet go worse. We may have to revise that previous number of fuckups. A few days ago the ambos brought Mr Baruch to us from Ratbite River, one of the smaller local hospitals. We got this phone message and apparently it said "forty eight year old man, low-speed single vehicle MVA, mild lumbar pain, no injuries observed, HR 80, RR 12, BP? Anyway, what was going wrong? He hadn't done any harm in the a...

Stranger's Fever: GP
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2010/10/gp.html
Sunday, October 17, 2010. Boring administrative entry below. I had the second job interview the other day. I did the interview to get into GP training. I applied to GP training to specialise in addiction medicine. I want to specialise in Addiction Medicine because I love it, and it's fascinating, and so Sarah doesn't have to work. We fill in the forms and then we wait. Apparently this is an open and shut legal case, which means it may well be finalised within three years. We shall see. I am older now, an...

Musings Of A Disheartened Doctor: March 2007
http://thelostdoctor.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Musings Of A Disheartened Doctor. The struggle to find happiness in a system where there isn't a great deal to be happy about. Thursday, March 15, 2007. Steering committee holds urgent meeting to modify the online application process (Prof Alan Crockard, far right). And so the crisis goes on. This week the department of health announced that the process by which 30000 junior doctors are applying for 22000 jobs is to be urgently reviewed. Where the fuck were you guys nine months ago? I shall certainly be ...

Stranger's Fever: Unpublished and possibly career-ending letter to a fellow medical practitioner
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2010/10/unpublished-and-possibly-career-ending.html
Sunday, October 17, 2010. Unpublished and possibly career-ending letter to a fellow medical practitioner. Dear Dr Zu,. I saw Joanne X today. She was limping and she had many of the clinical signs of sciatica. Imagine my delight when I heard how you had successfully treated her back pain without recourse to drugs of dependence. I'll have to imagine my delight, too, because that is not what I heard. She asked why I hadn't told her about this. I told her I had. BSc BM BS etc. Posted by Bronze John at 9:48 AM.

Stranger's Fever: Stress leave
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2010/09/stress-leave.html
Sunday, September 19, 2010. And if that title was an incantation, instead of just an indication, things would be a whole lot better. But anyway. What goes on? Well, I potter. I write the Novel. I read - currently medieval history. I feed the birds of the air and the beasts of the field. And presumably, time does its work. Plus two nurses invited me and Sarah out to a Greek restaurant, and another has found me on Facebook. All of this is a bit worrying. Why bring this up? Thanks for listening,. Nobody exp...

Stranger's Fever: Sugar
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2009/12/sugar.html
Tuesday, December 22, 2009. But in an area where I have seen one case of scurvy, countless cases of insert-vitamin-here deficiency, and which will one day give the world the first death by fried chicken embolus, Barnaby Trudge stands out. Today, however, he and the bird were here about his weight. I've put on a bit," he admitted. He sat in ballooning pants, with a white tee-shirt draped over his belly. How much do you reckon? I'm not sure" he said. I might have to do some walking," he said. Cordial - con...

Stranger's Fever: October 2005
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 31, 2005. The Reek of Wrongness. As the more perceptive amongst you have probably guessed, not feeling one hundred percent lately, moodwise. It's the usual unholy trinity of poor sleep, poor concentration and poor motivation, and my muse is not visiting me. In fact, I rather suspect that she has taken an restraining order of some sorts out on me. Anyhow. Enough deep blue. What to do about the moods? Mrs Poe, a large-framed woman, previously a widow, and her new husband, Mr Blancmange, a s...

Stranger's Fever: February 2005
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2005_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 28, 2005. And for a few blessed moments it's quiet here. I was talking to one of the other registrars here, and we worked out we had something weird in common. We all have the same nightmares. Not all the same nightmares, which would alarm me, as if something somewhere was broadcasting horrible visions into everyone's head, like something out of a Lovecraft story, but we all have had, at some time, the same nightmare. We're fakes. We are not who we say we are. It's all been a lie. I thin...

Stranger's Fever: Bounced
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2007/01/bounced.html
Friday, January 05, 2007. I’ve been thinking for the last few days about how to write this entry, and I still haven’t worked it out. I don’t believe it or not - like melodrama, and I don’t like causing problems or embarrassment for people. And I haven’t been sure lately about all this self-disclosure. Some answer to how does all this work? How come this is alive? The thing I remember most about anatomy is how as we dug deeper things became more and more strange, grew more and more alien, less and less li...

Stranger's Fever: April 2005
http://strangersfever.blogspot.com/2005_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 30, 2005. Do you see what I see? This reminds me of one of the very few times I have had contact with the police, aside from the ED or the occasional random breath testing. It was about ten years ago, and we were over East visiting relatives and staying in Sarah's parent's house. We were engaged. From what I could work out, it had been a car chase and the fugitives had ran into a lightpole and fled, but had been apprehended by two squad cars. Posted by Bronze John at 12:43 PM. She elected...
