Monday, April 15, 2013. Overheard @ The Info Desk: Make it work! No, it wasn't a Tim Gunn "Make it work" moment, but rather a patron "Make it work FOR ME. Situation when the phone rang this morning. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. I really like you, my new Wine-brarian. This little beauty of a dream job popped up on ALA's joblist:. Ok, so it doesn't say that it involves barrel tastings or any sort of drinking on the job, but it's in California, it pays a hell of a lot more than I currently make, and it comes with the awesome official title of Wine Librarian - not just something the staff calls you because you're Tipsy McStagger! The position closes this Friday the 13th, just sayin'. The Very Bad Book Blog.

Friday, July 1, 2011. It’s simple: Just don’t be a dumbass. Back to the beginning. So I could get everything right but the one I needed to score at least 80%, go back and then be presented with some old questions mixed with new and then I would be able to get even more wrong. It was painful. The best examples of this obviously came from the sexual harassment portion, where instead of providing a realistic, true to life scenarios we get this:. Links to this post. Thursday, January 31, 2013. Third time’s the charm? Greetings to anyone who may still be following this. Not only is it embarrassing that the past two Januaries I have written about writing more, I am ashamed that my last post was about not posting and a promise of forthcoming posts that week. All I can say is that the desire was there, but the focus and follow-through were obviously not present. I knew that I missed the practice, but I didn’t do anything about it. And more Days of Our Lives. Soooo IR...

Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Trending Topics: National Library Week - Reading, the difference between yucky and delicious. National Library Week and literacy go hand in hand. Everyone knows reading is important, but when it comes to following directions, reading labels or warning signs it becomes especially significant. I considered this fact this morning when instead of "This medication may taste better if chewed or crushed" my cold medicine actually recommends "This medication may taste bitter. Overheard @...

Sunday, August 28, 2011. I bet you didn't think I could cook, huh? Well, you're right. Their mini pizzas look tasty and appetizing. My pizzas look like something you would ask the waiter to send back to the kitchen. Not 100% certain, but most likely the fact that the recipe called for 3 egg yokes. Links to this post. Not at all library related. Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Libraries, we do more than shelter the homeless. Today's would be anything related to required reading for school. Lord of the Flies.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Trending Topics: Job Security for realz, this one has Secret Service agents involved. Last year I posted a job announcement for a "wine librarian,". Today I post one for being the Commander in Chief's librarian. That's right, Obam-arian! So while I'm one DC metro librarian who won't be applying for this cool gig, those who are interested will need to get their act together since the position closes today. Until Obama is interested in finding out what the book club selection will ...

Thursday, April 25, 2013. Random Subject Heading: WTF? Librarian Finds Smallpox Scabs Inside an Old Book. Grocery and to-do lists. Photographs. A Band-Aid. A plane ticket to Frankfurt in the smoking section from 1989. A moldy piece of Kraft cheese. Crushed up medication. All together now: “ These are a few of my favorite things. 8221; – just kidding! How Can We Harness This? I’m Tired of Talking About eBooks. The Woes of the Part-Timer. I’ve been working part-time since graduating in May 2009. If we’re being completely honest, I’ve actually been working part-time my whole life since I’ve never had a full-time job (long story, mostly about grad school), but since becoming a.
