http://yaelfriedman7.blogspot.com/2013/04/forbidden-territory.html
Little girl big world. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. With bunk-beds stacked three on each side of the berth. We arrived in the morning and boarded a shared jeep that would drive the ten hour journey to the city of Srinagar. View from the journey from Jammu to Srinagar. Not Comfortable. To ride. For 11 hours. Dal Lake from across the street from Farooz's house. Covering their knees and insulating the heat released from the congars. Farooz's mom tills the land. Mehru and Farooz chow down. In the evening, we wen...

Naranjas: September 2012

Little girl big world. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Bangles, bangles, bangles! Varanasi silk sari. Thanks, parents! Getting on the metro, we were stared at in a way that even now, after three months, was noteworthy. As we descended into the metro, a woman did a double take before literally taking a step back to make sure her eyes were not deceiving her. We met Sean at the metro station, where the staring continued and we photographed ourselves looking as Indian as four goras can get. The groom's home,.

Little girl big world. Tuesday, December 18, 2012. After getting lost for a while trying to find my friends, we went to a Mexican restaurant my friend Ernie from Corrymeela had recommended, and it was DELICIOUS! So exciting to just eat tortillas and salsa again! Nepal ETAs go traditional. S experienced when people here insist she is from Africa, the ignorant, hurtful comments made about her hair and skin, even the time she was refused entry to a club because the bouncer said they don ’. View on the hike.

http://yaelfriedman7.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Little girl big world. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Then on the metro on the way home, a lady wanted to give me her seat during rush hour, when people will elbow you in the face if it means they will get a precious place to sit down. I was confused until she said, loudly, in the packed train car, "But you're pregnant, aren't you? Nuff said. Though what I should have done was taken her seat and then told her I wasn't. Straight lines, class monitors in front. Is it really possible that the inspectors will c...

Naranjas: October 2012

Little girl big world. Monday, October 29, 2012. To repeat the performance. Women bring clothes to wash in the river, hanging them to dry on every available post or standing object. Families bathe their children and each other, shampooing their hair and then bending to rinse the soap in the grimy, green water. Herders bring buffaloes and goats to wash and cool off by the shore. Sadhus. Hindu holy men, and people from all walks of life come to the Ganges to perform pujas. The practice of a widow throwing ...

Little girl big world. Saturday, December 18, 2010. Otherwise known as an Italian Sheepdog and it has dreadlocks- actual doggie dreadlocks- all over its body. It's a very sweet, chill dog that looks like the dog version of a homeless person, I'm not even exaggerating. Google it. In any case, if you've made it this far in this inane post, feel free to check out the most recent pictures. Of the past month or so that I finally put up. Enjoy. As my fellow volunteer Michaela would say, Peace and Geese!

http://yaelfriedman7.blogspot.com/2013/02/first-impressions-last-impressions.html
Little girl big world. Thursday, February 28, 2013. First Impressions, Last Impressions. Well, the crazy adventure of teaching ended yesterday. I had a wonderful last day, full of beautiful cards made by my kids, plenty of hugs and even a few tears (but surprisingly not from me! Teachers expertly pouring water in their mouths without touching the bottle. Empty bulletin boards, white walls and partner desks meant for two but crammed with four. Flooded halls during rain, chaotic arrival and departure via a...
