Vicar of Didley at Ridley: April 2010

http://vicarofdidley.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Vicar of Didley at Ridley. Saturday, 17 April 2010. End of the holidays. We're just coming up to the end of my last holiday period while at Ridley - from here on it will be back to that more normal pattern of booking time off like most people have to do. Actually holiday allowance isn't that bad - the equivalent of 6 weeks off a year, and no more than 6 Sundays. And this year I'll arrive in the parish after ordination and we'll be almost straight into the summer holidays! A bit of everything really!

Vicar of Didley at Ridley: October 2009

http://vicarofdidley.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Vicar of Didley at Ridley. Friday, 23 October 2009. Things are looking OK on the curacy front. I've been in touch with a friendly bishop who has some interesting places that I could look at. You have to be related to me to find out more. Or if you're at Ridley you can believe the rumours. Or if you're a former CYFA member you'll remember our unoffical mascot. That's all I'm going to say for now. One Year On - Remembering Mark. Listen to the words carefully - the song was written after the sudden death of...

Unless you have been living on another planet for the last few years you will of course know that today the games of the XXX Olympiad begin in London. I. I've decided to relocate this blog to Wordpress because of it's extra configurability and the persistent rumours that blogger is going to be subsisted in t. Maybe in the future I'll tr. I'm training to be a vicar.

Vicar of Didley at Ridley: September 2009

http://vicarofdidley.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Vicar of Didley at Ridley. Friday, 25 September 2009. I haven't written anything like this before because I thought I was being stereotypical and unfair, and in my new job I'm meant to challenge and demolish stereotypes. However, a conversation with one of the new students revealed that he has had similar experiences, so it must be true. 1 Overheard following a well heeled family in the town centre, hovering near a tea room: "Mater, shall we venture inside this establishment? Over the last few weeks we'v...

Vicar of Didley at Ridley: End Times

http://vicarofdidley.blogspot.com/2010/06/end-times.html

Vicar of Didley at Ridley. Friday, 4 June 2010. Back at the ranch, college life draws rapidly to a close. With all the formal teaching over, and lecturers with their heads in marking our assignments it's time to amuse the students with some time fillers. Oh, and the clerical shirts have arrived! I'm not going to be an employee, I'll be an office holder. I will not have an employer, nor a contract. But for tax purposes, I work for the Church Commissioners. I cannot claim for a duck-house on expenses.

Padding Up: A Lenten Alleluia

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2010/03/lenten-alleluia.html

Monday, 1 March 2010. Preached in Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge - 21st February 2010. Deuteronomy 26 v1-11, Romans 10 v8b-13 and Luke 4 v1-13. Jesus goes on to live this out, throughout his ministry and teaching he provides nourishment with the Word, proclaiming himself the bread of life. Yes, Jesus shuns the material of the world, but not for the sake of it. ‘Those who come to me shall never hunger.’. Finally, from the pinnacle of the temple, Jesus is asked to throw himself down, allowing the angels t...

Padding Up: January 2009

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 7 January 2009. How to Shoot Yourself in Both Feet. Get rid of these two. What a very English coup. They clearly did not get on, and could not work together. Pietersen disliked Moores' boot-camp style, Moores disliked Pietersen's style of captaincy. Pietersen wanted Vaughan back in the team, Moores did not. Some teams lose a coach, some a captain. But to lose both, this close to an important series is plain barmy. And the maddest thing? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Padding Up: On Living and Dying

It is in embracing death that we come to a greater understanding of what it is to be alive. 8221; becomes one of the basic proclamations of the church. Http:/ owenjamesdobson.wetpaint.com/. Change, is a strange thing. Whether you fear it – the new, the different, the unexpected, or embrace it – dashing off into the next adventure, change affects us, the way we are seen, and the way we see the world. Padding Up: Heading East

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2009/03/heading-east.html

Sunday, 8 March 2009. I am about to break new ground. Having previously not been further east than Budapest, tomorrow I fly to Delhi, which is so far east that it's almost west. Nearly. My second Google Map in two posts(! When I'm able to get on the internet, I'll try and post a few pictures and whatnot to let you know what I'm up to and that I'm still alive. It's going to be quite an adventure, partly as I have so little planned at this stage. But it is going to be fun. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Padding Up: December 2008

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Monday, 29 December 2008. Michael Vaughan. And why not? Ian Bell's form in Test cricket since his 199 against South Africa at Lord's last summer has seen him score just 182 runs at an average of 20. That is simply not good enough for an England No.3. Vaughan has the ability, the proven record, and is statistically England's most successful ever captain. Who wouldn't want him on the pitch? Padding Up: The hills are alive...

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2009/03/hills-are-alive.html

Thursday, 26 March 2009. The hills are alive. I am sitting out on the balcony of my guest house, looking out at. Sun-drenched snowy peaks, having had quite a hectic few days! I got the train up from Delhi to Haridwar on Monday morning, then. Managed to find a bus to take me to Rishikesh. This was more by luck. Than judgement, but I find just wandering around the bus 'depot'. Field) calling out your destination seems to work. In Rishikesh. Kind of a hindu monastery place, full of German hippies doing yoga).

Padding Up: Countdown to the Ashes

http://paddingup.blogspot.com/2010/10/countdown-to-ashes.html

Monday, 11 October 2010. Countdown to the Ashes. Well the countdown to the 2010/11 Ashes tour is well underway; the teams are announced, tickets are booked (I'll be the sunburnt Englishman at the Gabba) and bars throughout Australia are bracing themselves for the advance of the Barmy Army. To whet my appetite as much as yours, here are my top five highlights from last summer's contest. 1 Flintoff runs out Ponting. Who says fielding is dull? 2 Swann bowls Ponting with a jaffa. Before you all get up in arm...

The Vicar of Bolingbrook. Stories about the suburbs, church, and home. Images of America: Bolingbrook. August 13, 2015. I bought the book Images of America: Bolingbrook at Village Hall last week. The Vicar of Dishley

The Vicar of Dishley. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Year 2 - finished already. Where did that go? Year 2 has been an incredible year of transformation. I can honestly say that I am not the person I was 2 years ago when my training began. Back then, I felt very 'green' in things theological; I was a relatively new Christian, who had been on the worlds fastest and most exhausting roller coaster through Confirmation, discernment, selection and training that at times I felt my feet hadn't touched the ground.

Something new is emerging in lake city. What brings a fresh future into being is citizens who are willing to self-organize. An alternative future needs the investment of citizens – leaders not in top positions – who are willing to pay the economic and emotional price that creating something really new requires. Peter Block from Community: The Structure of Belonging. What’s the plan? And tagged Lake City. She's here - Husband and I are so happy to welcome our little daughter into the world a few weeks ago. It's been quite an overwhelming adventure so far, that's for sure. Many thanks to everyone who has sent love and prayers our way, they have been welcomed and needed. There's much to think about and to say, but we're up to our eyeballs in new parenthood. Wish us luck! Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
