March 15, 2015. Two classes from each site were chosen to work directly with the artist, to developing ideas working with various materials to inform each artwork. These two classes then took the final concept forward and facilitated everybody else in the school to create their individual element. The individual sections or elements for each artwork were then installed by the artist working with some of the students to create a site specific installation in each reception area. I use maps, grids and tactile materials to provide a slightly more intimate perspective. I apply mixed media and encaustic paints to create a veil of light and depth as well as transparency to achieve an abstract environment. With the Transitions exhibit, my aim was to explore and renew the unexpected and sometimes forced transitions in life. My work interweaves between discourses, environmental influences and emotions. I believe art is essential and can bridge the rich diversity of our communities.
