The Grouchy Cineaste: 31 Frights #30: WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE [1994]
http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-30-wes-cravens-new-nightmare.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Saturday, October 30, 2010. 31 Frights #30: WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE [1994]. Wes Craven’s finest hour as a filmmaker to date. Of all the 1980s horror franchises, the NIGHTMARE series was easily the highest on the quality totem, and Craven’s inventive metafictional deconstruction of his own creation never got the credit it deserved, especially when his next film, the thematically similar SCREAM, was a huge hit. Welcome to my musings on life, work and the creative life amidst teaching at the Center for Cartoon Studies. Posts are illustrated when I can manage it. Myrant is just that: MYrant! I post daily, for the most part, except when deadlines and workload constrict my time. Saturday, September 03, 2005. Here in southern VT, we're having a Louisiana-related problem that has become even more disturbing (to say the least) in the wake of Katrina. And that's the best-case scenario: having seen wind-dispersion maps ...

http://grouchycineaste.blogspot.com/2010/10/31-frights-23-race-with-devil-1974.html
Picking apart the Picture Show. Saturday, October 23, 2010. 31 Frights #23: RACE WITH THE DEVIL [1974]. A perfect example of a drive-in classic if there ever was one, this enjoyably dumb thriller spends a solid hour making the case that everyone in Texas is a Satanist before revving up with some groovy vehicular carnage (why else would you cast Peter Fonda? And a classic 70s-style joybuzzer ending. Best enjoyed with a six-pack on a Saturday night – like this one. Would you like to know more?

The Ramblings of a Compounded Geek. Basically, this is a public spot for me to ramble on. Look if you must. Is that an antique? I grunted politely to request a repetition of the question. The elderly lady politely tapped the record in my hand, the Sesame Street Bert and Ernie record in my hand. She smiled. 'Is that an antique? I smiled back. 'It's about as old as I am so I'm going to say yes.'. How I Spent My Sunday. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Kevin J. Smith's Blog. Doctor Who News Page.

That Will Teach Them To Be Bad: The Baron's Weekly Capsule Reviews
http://thatwillteachthem.blogspot.com/2008/10/barons-weekly-capsule-reviews.html
Saturday, October 11, 2008. The Baron's Weekly Capsule Reviews. As I say above, "weekly." I promise, from now on. Directed by Steven Brill and Written by Kristofor Brown and Seth Rogen. This is a fun goofy comedy in the same vein as 40 Year Old Virgin. I am not a fan of Owen Wilson at all, yet this movie was funny enough to get me to ignore his inherent mild retardation (thats right, I said retarded. Come get me anti-defamation league! Directed by Peter Berg and written by Matthew Michael Carnahan. The s...
