Dave's Yak Tales: February 2015

http://davesyaktales.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Ignore the Tuesday date. This is Monday, February 23, 2015. Morning stroll begins. I had wondered about how, and if, the island cat population is kept under control. This looks like a carriage house to me. Horseless. When I was a kid, my grandmother still had one. No horses. Puffery on a foggy morning. Keeping it all together. I confess. Had shoes and socks. But, I was walking so I think it was ok. Have never gone into the Black Dog Bar and Tables. Cigar bar. Littoral: blog of...

Dave's Yak Tales: December 2014

http://davesyaktales.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Last day of my Christmas weekend. I had thought of doing a sunrise paddle, but as there was not a visible sunrise, I went for a walk. No sympathy from Frosty. Fog did not keep this kayaker off the water. Walking warmed up my ankle. It stopped hurting. When I was a kid, we would go to downtown Milwaukee and look at the "Christmas Windows" Displays in department store windows. I suppose that doesn't happen anymore. Santa was ready to go. I needed the eat breakfast, and pack.

http://davesyaktales.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. Sunday, November 30, 2014. Checked out of the Chase Inn and Suites. After breakfast, of course. A good spread. The scrambled eggs had sausage mixed in. On Saturday, it was ham. I again carried out two pieces of bread to make a sandwich with the summer sausage and cheddar I brought from home. On the water at Soldiers Hole, Fort DeSoto Park, just before 10. In the tidal bay behind North Beach. I could see its foot, but did not get it with the camera. Bowing to the Don Cesar.

Saturday, January 31, 2015. On the canal at Rogers Park in Weeki Wachee at 7:45 AM. Short paddle to the Weeki Wachee River. Began to paddle up stream. Manatees at Hospital Hole. A sink hole in the River. Held the camera under water. A bit chilly, and I had plans to swim later. Mama thought I was too close. She was right. The current was pushing me. Mama had calves on both sides. 6, maybe 8, manatees at the Hole. I resumed the up River paddle. Peacocks at the Weeki Wachee State Park kayak launch. A great ...

Gator Attacks Kayaker in Central Florida Lake. Gator Attacks Kayaker in Central Florida Lake. Now there’s something that every kayaker LOVES to read. I was almost gator dinner. -Buffy. It’s alligator mating season, which means they’re a little bit more aggressive and territorial. I’m certainly no expert, but I believe that in this instance, the gator was baited by the small dog who was sitting in the boat. (The small dog, Buffy, now has a facebook page. Salt Run – Anastasia State Park. Salt Run – Anastasia State Park. Castillo de San Marcos. What a trip this was! We decided to do a mini-vacation and stay overnight in St. Augustine, the oldest city in the U.S. Saturday we walked around the city, visited Castillo de San Marcos, a fort built in the 17th century. And took a cheesy tour of the Old St. Johns County Jail. There are just a lot of things to do in this quaint old city – we easily could have spent a few more days here. Low tide at launch. We beach...

Tuesday, January 10, 2017. My New Favorite Blanket. Last summer as I was starting to plan my Christmas projects, I had the idea to start a list of all the blankets I wanted to make. I am constantly looking at beautiful patterns on Pinterest and on different crochet groups, but I never did much outside my comfort zone. (My comfort zone consisted mainly of single crochet chevron’s and animal hats.). The one I’ve finished most recently might just be my favorite. My finished blanket is 35” x 38”. I wanted a ...

View From My Kitchen Window. A Season of Calm. Asymp; 6 Comments. As much as I love (and live for) the summer, resisting its end as though it would never come again, I also love the comfort and ‘home-liness’ of the autumn. When I came home from work today, those fall-ish things that make my heart happy seemed to be gathered in joyful clusters everywhere I looked. Just three of the many cookbooks spilled all over my kitchen. Whatever season you are in at the moment, I wish you joy and contentment, and hop...
