View from the Castle Green

View from the Castle Green. Thursday, 24 June 2010. I had promised in my blog that I would publish my spending on the election campaign - so here it is. This expenditure relates to what the Electoral Commission describes as the "short campaign" - i.e. roughly from when the election was called. Spending limit for the period £10,745.40 (based on an electorate in York Central of 74,908). Actual spending of £4163.40. 163;3273.90 - Election materials (leaflets and design costs). View from the Castle Green: The internet election

http://viewfromthecastlegreen.blogspot.com/2010/05/internet-election.html

View from the Castle Green. Monday, 3 May 2010. Sorry I haven't posted over the last week or so - I've been occupied most evenings with hustings and the rest of the time with leafletting, canvassing - and responding to e-mails. Perhaps the most immediate example of this is the number of e-mails I've received, asking my views and to pledge support on various things - which I've been plugging my way through with the help of some volunteers in the office. I must have had several hundred of these. Anyway, I'...

View from the Castle Green. Saturday, 30 January 2010. The thin end of the wedge. According to the Yorkshire Post. On Tuesday the planning committee of Doncaster Council will consider an application to lift restrictions on night flights and loud aircraft at the Robin Hood Airport near Finningley. As this FoE report. Let's hope that Doncaster Council have the courage to throw out these plans at their meeting next week. Sunday, 24 January 2010. Lib Dems get lost? York's Bootham Ward council by-election in ...

View from the Castle Green. Sunday, 20 December 2009. Monbiot nails climate denier Plimer. Apparently George Monbiot eventually debated climate change denier Ian Plimer on Australian TV and challenged some of the claims in his book "Heaven and Earth." It's fascinating to see the way in which Plimer tries to change the subject every time an awkward question is asked. And yes, I do believe it's appropriate to label people who engage in blatant fraud and deception as deniers. A tale of two treaties. The mai...

View from the Castle Green. Tuesday, 30 March 2010. No to Trident replacement! I've received a number of e-mails from people asking my view about the proposed replacement for the ageing Trident nuclear weapons system. In fact, this is a topic I've mentioned in my first election leaflet. Although the correspondence suggests that the price tag is now £97 billion instead of the £75 billion I had last heard - but there's inflation for you I suppose! Sunday, 28 March 2010. Jam today and jam tomorrow. On Satur...

View from the Castle Green: The Great Debates

http://viewfromthecastlegreen.blogspot.com/2010/04/weekly-round-up.html

View from the Castle Green. Friday, 23 April 2010. As the week has been so hectic, I'm afraid it's been a while since I last had the chance to update the blog. What has been particularly amusing is seeing the reaction of the tabloid newspapers to the scandalous notion that the British public should have the right to decide the outcome of the election instead of them. I think that Nick has so far been accused of just about everything short of satanic ritual abuse, although that too may soon be coming.

View From the Cart:The Life of a Golf Course Dog. A golf course superintendent's thoughts on the life of Mulligan, his golf course dog. Monday, December 10, 2012. 2012: The Year of a Third Mulligan. As 2012 draws to a close, Mulligan celebrates yet another chance at life. Thirteen years ago we considered his rescue and adoption a solitary mulligan, befitting the time honored tradition of one chance at a "do over.". Tuesday, June 12, 2012. View from the castel. Everyone has one. be inspired through another point of view. Want to know…. One Fine Day in Thailand. Day one started with a quick stop to the butterfly and orchid farm, which made for a great introduction to the scene outside the city gates. The trip then took a quick turn into side show stunts, at the cobra show! Next stop, Elephants! There is a lot of mixed feelings about any animal shows (including the Cobras)…are they taken care of? Where is the money going? In my travel readin...

Much like the play’s own traumatised characters, Stuart Slade’s. Though the play doesn’t entirely manage to avoid assaulting us with its own relevance, there is genuine value in tackling the sensitive topic in its critical manner. January 12, 2017.
