Farwell is a village located in the center of Clare County and was founded in 1870 when the Pere Marquette Railroad built its line from Clare to Ludington . The village was named after Samuel Farwell a local resident who had strong ties to the railroad. Farwell was platted in 1871 and was the county seat from 1871 until 1879.
