Elected Swineherd: Once more into the breach...
http://elected-swineherd.blogspot.com/2009/02/once-more-into-breach.html
Friday, February 13, 2009. Once more into the breach. Kudos to my distinguished colleague Diodotus for having largely shouldered the burden of running this humble discussion for the last several months. I further applaud the resolution to spend less time writing, and more time in action; as James, brother of Jesus wrote in 49 AD, "Faith without action is as dead as a body without a soul.". Posted by Cleitus the Black. Good to have you back. awaiting your next nugget of wisdom with bated breath.

Tyler Durden Says...: Tyler vs QE. Tyler wins.
http://tdsays.blogspot.com/2010/04/tyler-vs-qe-tyler-wins.html
Thursday, 8 April 2010. Tyler vs QE. Tyler wins. Not many people seem to understand Quantative Easing (QE). Tyler will now do his best to explain it all for you, in language that you can mostly understand. Keep up, you hear? QE is essentially printing money. We all know that, right? Let Tyler take you by the hand and guide you through it. 1 The DMO issues Gilts to the market via an auction. For arguments sake let's say they are 10y maturity. So, QE in effect is adding money into the system now, but at th...

Elected Swineherd: Justice is (badly) Served
http://elected-swineherd.blogspot.com/2008/11/justice-is-badly-served.html
Wednesday, November 26, 2008. Justice is (badly) Served. Salim Ahmed Hamdan has been returned to his native Yemen, ostensibly to serve the final months of the sentence he received from the military commission that convicted him of providing material support to Al Queda, but cleared him of the more serious charges of conspiracy. The majority of his 5 and a half year sentence was served at Guantanamo prior to his trial and conviction. What can one make of this? A few thoughts come to mind. Et tu, Anonymous?

Elected Swineherd: Trouble in Niger
http://elected-swineherd.blogspot.com/2008/12/trouble-in-niger.html
Monday, December 15, 2008. The New York Times has a long report on the drive for uranium in Niger. Which is threatening to create a conflict between Tuareg nomads who live on but presumably do not own the land wherein the ore is to be found, and the government, which presumably would prefer to profit from mining contracts at their expense:. To fight the rebellion, the government has effectively isolated the north, devastating its economy. International human rights investigators have also documented ...

Saturday, January 31, 2009. Diodotus is Largely on Hiatus. In case you hadn't noticed. Might as well make it official. So while I may occasionally post random musings, and will probably pop in with Friday Star Trek blogging from time to time, I'm going to let my co-bloggers Cleitus the Black and Empedocles run the ship for awhile. I look forward to reading and continuing to comment on their posts. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Haft of the Spear. Lawyers, Guns and Money. Modern Day Pirate Tales.

Elected Swineherd: Misrule of Law
http://elected-swineherd.blogspot.com/2009/03/misrule-of-law.html
Thursday, March 12, 2009. I can't think of anything dumber than the sentencing of Muntadhar al-Zeidi to three years in Iraq prison for throwing a shoe at President Bush during an unannounced visit to the country. Cost of iraq war. The throwee should be in prison, not the thrower! March 16, 2009 at 11:40 PM. Note to al-Zeidi: put it in a column next time and leave your shoes on. Last observation: not since Oddjob in Goldfinger has a piece of clothing looked so deadly. March 19, 2009 at 7:00 PM.

Elected Swineherd: Welcome, For Better or Worse.
http://elected-swineherd.blogspot.com/2007/11/welcome-for-better-or-worse.html
Saturday, November 24, 2007. Welcome, For Better or Worse. We are a junior political scientist and a soldier of misfortune who have been arguing since childhood about political ethics and global social order. The basic question that informs our discussions is how, whether and on what terms the gap might be closed between national and human security. Can global governance "as if people mattered" be achieved? Why blog at all, and why now? We have different reasons. Diodotus: " Political science today.

Elected Swineherd: Corpse-Counting

Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Radio Free Europe has a valuable case study on the politics behind counting war casualties. Tokaca's work has taken place under the auspices of a non-governmental organization, the Research and Documentation Center. Whose key report " Human Losses in Bosnia-Herzegovina 1991-1995. Patrick Ball, director of the Human Rights Program at the U.S.-based Benetech Initiative, has said the "richness and depth of this database is astonishing."
