Diane on Whidbey Island: May 2015
http://dianeonwhidbeyisland.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 9, 2015. Dior Animal Print Wrap Dress. I love this outfit! When I first started sewing for Gene in 2003, I looked everywhere for pictures of vintage fashions. I found this outfit in a library book. This outfit is from Christian Dior's 1952-1953 Profile Line. I knew I had to make it. My attempt to recreate the original photo. If only I had a set of stairs for my dolls. In 2005 I made this ensemble. It turned out OK. Years later, I came across this photo in a. Of course while I was finishing ...

Diane on Whidbey Island: December 2013
http://dianeonwhidbeyisland.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 17, 2013. When I first saw this fashion while archiving photos that I like from the l'Officiel. Magazines, I knew it was going to become an obsession. A dress made out of two different sized dots! What's not to love? It also looked very Audrey Hepburn to me, even though I have never seen a photo of her wearing a dress like this. This is not surprising though, because this is a Hubert Givenchy design circa 1955. Givenchy was Audrey's favorite designer. This is what I came up with. I have...

Diane on Whidbey Island: Short "Gloves" for the JAMIEshow Dolls
http://dianeonwhidbeyisland.blogspot.com/2015/07/short-gloves-for-jamieshow-dolls.html
Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Short "Gloves" for the JAMIEshow Dolls. When Gene was recreated by JAMIEshow a couple of years ago, she came with two new awesome innovations. First was the rooted wigcaps, which are genius! I can't get enough of them. The second one was changeable hands, including colored hands and lycra "gloves". Phoenix" came with white gloves. J'Adore came with black gloves. So I decided to make my own. Style 1 is the shortest glove. It can also be used as a sweatband when Gene exercises.

Diane on Whidbey Island: Black Lipstick in Balmain
http://dianeonwhidbeyisland.blogspot.com/2015/06/black-lipstick-in-balmain.html
Sunday, June 7, 2015. Black Lipstick in Balmain. I took some more photos of "Black Lipstick" yesterday. The lighting was a lot better than it had been the last time I took pictures. I can't believe this is a colored photo. Pierre Balmain circa 1954. I love this backdrop, but the floor looks all wavy because the base of the stand is under the fabric. The black wigcap looks great with this outfit too, maybe not with this backdrop though. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Diane on Whidbey Island's Store.

Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Modes Royale Inspired Four Piece Cocktail Ensemble. I have been planning on making this outfit since 2008 when I discovered the Modes Royale patterns. Of course other projects kept jumping in front of this one, and another designer made this before me, but I still was obsessed with making this design myself. I wanted to make this outfit for last year's "Every Day a Holiday" convention, but I didn't like my first attempts. Here is my 7th attempt. It took a lot of tries to ge...

Diane on Whidbey Island: Modes Royale Cocktail Dress with Chiffon Bodice
http://dianeonwhidbeyisland.blogspot.com/2015/06/modes-royale-cocktail-dress-with.html
Saturday, June 6, 2015. Modes Royale Cocktail Dress with Chiffon Bodice. This trio of dresses was inspired by a Modes Royale 1956-1957 Fall/Winter design. I love the description of this dress- "Scooped and contoured is the direction of this skirt planned to arch out at sides and glide at back.". View A is made out of black casa satin. I love this satin because it is not too shiny or flimsy. It would also look beautiful in a print. Madra looks stunning in her new "Hutton" wig. That is not all! I think I w...

Thursday, April 23, 2015. A Suit for Trent. I didn't own a Trent until Gene's 2010 convention in Philadelphia, I went home with three Trents. Image Property of Integrity Toys. Image Property of Integrity Toys. Then along came the JAMIEshow Trent. Image Property of JAMIEshow. Image Property of JAMIEshow. I told myself I wasn't going to buy him. I wasn't going to buy him! Here is my first suit for Trent. I am not crazy about the fit in the back, or the fact that it is impossible to get the back vent not to...

Friday, November 21, 2014. My Top 10 Christian Dior Favorites From 1951. OK, I am going to admit up front that I cheated a little on this post. I couldn't narrow it down to only 10 designs, so I grouped a few designs together. You will notice from these photos, that Dior had a thing for short jackets in 1951. I want to make most of these outfits for my dolls. Warning, I may use the word "love" too much. First off, we have this beautiful confection of a gown, sigh. What's not to love? I am thrilled to own...
