Unorthodox Foodie: June 2012
http://unorthodoxfoodie.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Saturday, June 30, 2012. I tried a 2009 Barbera that was light bodied and spicy with hints of maraschino followed by a lavish 2000 Tempranillo from Spain. Both very good and structured but, as the CG remarked, it was nothing we couldn’t find from Whole Foods down the street. I am not apt to try this place again, especially since it will probably grow ever more crowded as the new mixe...

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. This past weekend we ended up in the San Gabriel Valley at Sea Harbour Restaurant and knew exactly what we wanted as we had viewed the menu and chose our nine dishes the night before. White fish batter w ere. And of course, there is always room for more pork-filled buns; this time steamed. Our last bit of out of the ordinary cam...

Last night we ate at Bistro 45. In buttery oil and a salt tang. The Pitman Family Farms Duck Cassoulet arrived with tender duck meat falling off the bone, three kinds of beans with varying textures, yummy peppery lamp sausage bits, shards of crispy bacon, dried tomatoes and fried bread all topped by a heavenly and rich must...

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Tender veal, simply adorned with light jus and exquisite buttery, fried potatoes. Italian chopped salad with chickpeas and salami, room temperature and slightly dressed with a creamy, tang. While we ate at the restaurant Gold made a point to frequently leave the exposed kitchen to warmly walk the room and converse with just about every customer, most of which ...

A foodie from high to low and the adventures of everywhere in between with a little literature and art critique thrown in. Monday, January 7, 2013. Great Grapes and Grilled Cheese Honor Out With the Old and In With the New. First up was a more traditional version of thick, white sourdough bread, cheddar cheese, leftover beef from Christmas cold cuts and creamy avocado – all of which blended together with a fine meat funk between its crispy covers. Bella button mushrooms, bacon bits,. It was an evening of...
