Vinonostrum: Vinitaly 2009: wine notes (1)

http://vinonostrum.blogspot.com/2009/04/vinitaly-2009-wine-notes-1.html

Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Vinitaly 2009: wine notes (1). Vinitaly, for those who never heard about it, is the biggest wine fair of Italy (and most likely one of the biggest of the world), an impressive circus that I have been regularly visiting for many years with a spirit sometimes similar to those of the children going to an enormous free playground. And I could appreciate the good evolution of his wines: the 1999 was showing a richer nose, while on the palate there was a higher complexity and structure ...

Vinonostrum: July 2008

http://vinonostrum.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 6, 2008. Last thursday we finally organised the great brunello event. The nine Brunello of the evening were tasted in the following order:. Poggio Antico Riserva 1990. Castelgiocondo Ripe al Convento 1999. Banfi Poggio all'Oro 1990. Casanova di Neri Cerretalto 1999. Soldera Case Basse Riserva 2000. It was decided to open and decant the 3 last wines from the beginning of the evening, while all the others, apart from the 1990's, were opened half an hour before tasting them. Comes from a produc...

Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Assemblea of Consorzio of Brunello: there will be no change for Brunello di Montalcino. I transcribe as reported by the tenuta Il Poggione on his "Montalcino Report" the result of the Assembly of the Consorzio of Brunello di Montalcino that took place yesterday in Montalcino. The counting of the votes (based on the hectares of Brunello planted to vine) is the following:. Proposition 1: are you in favor of changing the ampelographic basis for Brunello di Montalcino? I already ha...

Vinonostrum: May 2009

http://vinonostrum.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 31, 2009. What a stunning Greek wine: Ghi ke Uranos. Yesterday I organised a blind surprise tasting that my wife arranged for Laurine, a friend who is getting married as part of her all-day hen party. Eight friends (rigourously all women, since it was a hen party) attended the tasting, where I chose wines from some of the countries that Laurine likes the most. I selected myself all wines, except for a Greek red wine that was gently offered by a Greek-Belgian friend who was at the tasting.

I am hosting a special Italian wine and food class on Friday, May 2 at I Monelli Pizzeria. 5019 N. Western, Chicago. This will be an intermediate class on pairing Italian wines and food (though beginners are certainly welcome) - and what better way to learn about this subject than by hosting it at a trattoria! There are some brands of Champagnes that are very familiar to consumers and connoisseurs alike; Laurent-Perrier. Is certainly one of those. Situated in the town of Tours-sur-Marne, a bit west of Epernay, the house recently celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2012. But the wine again tasted out beautifully. Th...

Views on wines from Italy, California, Chile, Argentina and other great regions of the world from a freelance writer and photographer. Saturday, August 22, 2015. The Latest and Greatest from Champagne - Part One. I'm working on a book on Champagne and believe me, I can't really call this work! While some think of this category in modest terms, I enjoy these wines and tasted several that were a notch or two above most of their competition. These included Bereche. A superb grower firm in Ludes, Palmer.

Views on wines from Italy, California, Chile, Argentina and other great regions of the world from a freelance writer and photographer. Monday, October 20, 2014. Inspired Words about Champagne. Let's begin with the tasting notes, which are among the finest I've ever read on Champagne. Stelzer's words perfectly sum up the distinctiveness that is at the heart of any special cuvée and he writes in such a way to thrill our senses, yet never does he talk down to the reader or write in a snobbish tone. Capuring...

Views on wines from Italy, California, Chile, Argentina and other great regions of the world from a freelance writer and photographer. Wednesday, September 17, 2014. This would be the first reserve Cabernet Sauvignon produced in Napa Valley and the rest, as they say, is history. BV continues today without Tchelistcheff and under new ownership, but Cabernet Sauvignon remains its leading priority. I recently tasted three new releases of Cabernet Sauvignon along with a new offering of Tapestry, a specia...

Views on wines from Italy, California, Chile, Argentina and other great regions of the world from a freelance writer and photographer. Friday, June 12, 2015. A Singular History of Wine. Wine books are as popular as ever, but when it comes to books about the history of wine, that's a different story. That's not a surprise, given that most readers would rather learn about new wines and trends as opposed to winemaking practices from decades and centuries ago. Clarke also discusses "International Consultants...
