Tone Machines Blog: B&M Champion Phazer v1 (1976)
http://tonemachines.blogspot.com/2014/03/b-champion-phazer-v1-1976.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. B&M Champion Phazer v1 (1976). Keep on fighting, till the end. Well this is a cool little oddity. As you have guessed from the title, this is the B&M (Barnes and Mullins) Champion Phazer. Yes, the same company that put out the famous B&M Champion Fuzz Unit. This little guy comes from a succession of pedals that 'B&M Champion' rebranded in the mid-70's for Colorsound. Earlier on in the decade they manufactured and distributed pedals for Exel; The Shatterbox. As you may know from re...

Friday, October 18, 2013. Sola Sound Tone Bender MKII - so perfect! This has to be one of the best sounding pedals demo'd on youtube, ever. Big thanks to Philip for his awesome FX demos. Tuesday, October 15, 2013. The story continues.- . A while back we talked about the birth and initial incarnation of the original junior fuzz, the Jordan Bosstone, from 1967. Although the actual numbers are lost to history, the production of the V2 "Alhambra" Bosstone was in the thousands. Reported to be the tone for...

Tone Machines Blog: February 2014
http://tonemachines.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 27, 2014. Man, the 60's must have been a crazy time for fuzz-addicts. Think about how insane it must have been to walk into a guitar store and the dude behind the counter hands you these boxes of scuzz to mess around with. This disgustingly filthy mix of fuzzes from the late 60's all have very similar circuits, Check it out! Wednesday, February 19, 2014. The King Has Come! Rejoice and be glad. Earlier this week friend of the blog Bart/Discofreq (of effectsdatabase.com. Big Elk / /.

Monday, January 20, 2014. Strange EHX Axis Fuzz? Check out this oddity, and yet another awesome contribution from our friend Jerms; it's an Electro Harmonix Axis Fuzz. That isn't really an Axis Fuzz at all. So what is it? You may be asking. We'll just let Jerms explain himself;. I traced it out and it is a 2 transistor muff fuzz with a big muff tone stack tacked on, with a makeup gain transistor added on the end. I'm sure that is what you were thinking. Thank you for checking us out. Squelchy Soviet Fuzz...

Tone Machines Blog: November 2013
http://tonemachines.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 28, 2013. About a year or so ago this crazy looking effect I had never seen before showed up on ebay, called the Bushwhacker. In addition to its amazing name, it is probably the rarest out of an already rare line of pedals from Jennings Electronics. Which lasted from the late 60's to the early 70's). I'm still not 100% sure of what it actually does, as I unfortunately lost the auction. But I can only assume it's some sort of fuzz/wah/leslie hybrid type-thing? Maybe you have some more?

Tone Machines Blog: On the Hunt
http://tonemachines.blogspot.com/p/always-looking-out.html
I may have more than the average person when it comes to vintage guitar effects, but the nerd/hoarder in me is always looking out for something different, cool, and possibly a hidden holy grail effect that sounds amazing but is hard to find. Get my Email here. The Gunn Tone Bender was a sweet fuzz out of New Zealand in the 1970's. I'm sure it's pretty awesome, and after my trip to NZ last year I know I need this thing! Please let me know if you got one/ /. So if you got one, let me know! I wasn't able to...
