I’ve turned a massive corner in teaching: whereas once I couldn’t wait to get out of that classroom, now I can’t STAND losing classtime to procedural necessities, trainings, or being out sick. The flu is no match for my willpower, right? I should like to be feeling miserable while trying to impart knowledge, spark curiosity and engage students, all at once, not feeling miserable in my bed. The amount of material we need to cover is staggering. Blechhhhhh!

It was a simple quiz: 24 questions over four functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with positive and negative single-digit integers. No twists, no curveballs — just stuff like. And, as you can see, scores are pretty abysmal. 72 kids missed. Or more problems. Only 21 students, less than a full class, missed two or less. And there were only 24 problems.
