On 26th April 2007, His Majesty the King attended the death anniversary of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal ceremony performed by His Holiness the Je Khenpo and the monks of Central Monk Body of Punakha Dzong. Brief History of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. In 1616 the Shabdrung escaped Tibet to establish a new base in western Bhutan, founding Cheri Monastery at the head of Thimphu valley.
