Faversham is first mentioned in a royal charter of 811AD, where it is described as the King’s Town. In the 1850s a Saxon Cemetery was discovered on the southern edge of the town. The burial goods found in the graves indicate an important regal settlement. In Domesday Book (1086 AD) Faversham is listed as land owned by the King. It had the right to hold a market, which is held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The manufacture of explosives was another industry which endured for centuries. The first ...
