Back at Gatwick we found our way to the Purple Parking courtesy bus and got there about 2 minutes before the bus to take us back to our car and see us on our way home to Suffolk. As you may know we have been here since Monday getting a few jobs done. We were pulled out of the water about mid day and the first thing they did was check the stern gear for play, no problem, this was followed by a high pressure wash down to get all the crud and lose paint off. As you can see the boat is in a polytunnel and we have a stairway at each end...

I didn’t intend to blog today, what could I say that was new on such familiar territory, well here goes. 3 locks, 1 junction, 1 swing bridge, 2 canals 4.5 miles in 3 hours. Not only is this building home to this old boiler it is also home to a family of Swallows who have nested up in the rafters right above the boiler. I wouldn’t be surprised if they think twice about emigrating at the end of the summer with a centrally heated nest. Once it is running correctly the valves operate automatically to keep the engine rocking.
