What is the role of an SLE? – visual recall

https://visualrecall.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/what-is-the-role-of-an-sle

What is the role of an SLE? It’s a few weeks since my SLE accreditation training and this post aims to capture some of my reflections on the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t heard of SLEs. Until a couple of months ago I hadn’t either! I intend to blog about my work to help me reflect and learn from the experience, so if you’re an SLE with any tips or advice it would be great to hear from you. First posted on staffrm.io). The empty chair – visual recall

https://visualrecall.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/the-empty-chair

An activity that works again and again is The Empty Chair. I first saw this being used by a colleague and it was so simple and effective that I’ve used it regularly ever since. It’s effective when just starting with a group and it can serve as a quick warm-up with a group that already know each other. The Empty Chair is a really useful activity because it needs no preparation and it can be scaffolded or extended as appropriate to the needs of the pupils. What simple activities do you use again and again?

We can wait – visual recall

https://visualrecall.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/we-can-wait

Children and young people who have experienced repeated failure in their learning and in their interactions with other people suffer with low self-esteem. They have a poor self-image and tend to be very fragile. The slightest thing can upset them and cause an extreme emotional reaction. So dealing with them can be very tricky. It’s easy to “get it wrong”. Open up the space, take off the pressure, show that you will stay with the young person and things will usually get better. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Raise your expectations – visual recall

https://visualrecall.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/raise-your-expectations

Children with special educational needs (SEN), by definition, find it harder to learn that their peers, so clearly our expectations of what they can achieve will be different, but that doesn’t mean they have to be less challenging. How do you let your pupils know that you want them to reach for the sky? First posted on staffrm.io). Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Form Language. Imagery. Rhythm. Tone. Subject matter. Unseen Flirtations on Soundcloud. The FIRST BREAK mixtape. Us vs Them vs I: Another look at Differentiation. Now, there’s a fairly long list of things that can take a teacher from nought to inadequate in 60 seconds, and differentiation is fairly high on that list. None of this, I think, makes me a bad middle manager. There’s something about differentiation which is mirage-like and almost ephemeral. It seems doable in theory but in practical ap...How d...

Just a Teacher Standing in Front of a Class. Because Strength Is Never A Weakness. She must have had/need lots of time off work? She must be an emotional wreck. But she needs therapy to cope. She’s a single mum too; virtually unemployable. But the single mum thing means she’s flighty. But it’s easy to use mental illness as an excuse. We’re all in it together. Middot; May 30. Exploring Learning and Behaviour. Skip to primary content. Affecting Early Behavioural Interventions. February 23, 2014. Before I go on, I am very aware that working at the end of the continuum that I do, there may very well be a “filing drawer effect” happening which means that many interventions do actually work, it’s just that I wouldn’t hear as much about them as I only work with students for whom these strategies have failed. The next step will be to arrive at a stage where we can analyse the variab...
