Not as subversive as it sounds, this is the result of my noticing that some files failed to copy onto my MP3 player. The reason turned out to be because their names contained characters which are invalid in FAT. But replaces any of the illegal characters with the. Character. Note that I've removed the. Suffix to prevent the server from thinking you want to execute it in place rather than download it. I use a UTF-8 locale, but my MP3 player uses ISO-8859-1. By mounting it with the option.

Scripts for managing mail in mbox format. Amx stands for Automated Mail eXpiry. It reads an mbox file and outputs a new version with messages older than a given number of days (based on when they were received) removed and optionally appended to a different file. Mailmng is a python script which processes mail folders. It can copy messages from one folder to another, remove old messages from a folder or a combination of both. It therefore replaces amx and catmailuniq. And has the advantage that it works with Maildir. As well as mbox. It also works without needing to create extra clutter in working directories like catmailuniq.

Newsq: Outgoing usenet article manipulator. In newsq I included support for a simple news server called s-news. And I also wrote a number of patches for it. Newsq relies on the cancel patch. If used with s-news. There are also patches to enable file locking. The patches are for s-news version 0.1.10, but there was subsequently a release 0.1.11 which I have not tested. I hope these patches are still applicable. After 0.1.11 development of s-news seems to have ceased. Download newsq 0.14.3.

Vixn home page
For the 21st century. Vixn is a Linux/Unix programmers' text editor. The rationale behind it is that I've been using vim for several years so using a text editor without a vi-like command mode has become almost unthinkable, but I was frustrated with the limitations imposed by vim's one window. Working through compiler error messages is clumsy. If you try to open a file that's already open in an obscured window you get an annoying error message. Vixn borrows the concept of throwback windows from RISC OS.
