Sourcing a 148Mhz receiver -The WeathAlert box. The WeathAlert system is a defunct warning system primarily designed for boat safety. Weather information was broadcast on 148.0875Mhz and displayed on a LCD on the Weathalert. For this project the Weathalert parts used are the box, the supplied BNC rubber ducky antenna and the receiver. The North East Radio Group Transistor Tester originally from Garry Morton M1GRY. Weathalert units were a commercial product designed to provide weather warnings to fisherman and others. Transmitters were located at strategic places around the coast and the device was continually updated with weather information. I added a 9V battery and a switch to the front panel. The case and the LCD are ideal for the job. The North East Radio Club have many of these units on hand. The transistor tester inside view.

Getting to the island. The VK5CWL call sign. Is the call sign allocated to the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society (AHARS), for operation at the Cape Willoughby lighthouse on Kangaroo Island, for the International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (ILLW). The call sign was issued in 2013, and was first used during the 2013 ILLW event.
