This experiment is carried out in a special rig comprising of a two-stage axial fan, a venturimeter and a butterfly valve. At a given rpm of the fan, the butterfly valve opening is changed over a range to vary the flow rate, which is measured by the flow meter. The pressure rise across the fan for different flow rates are measured and plotted against the flow rate to obtain the characteristic plot.

Vibration testing of beams. In this experiment, a beam will be instrumented with accelerometers and subjected to transverse vibrations using an elecromagnetic shaker. The accelerometer readings (along with other equipments) will be used to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes.

Study of Full Gas turbine. This experiment is carried out in a miniature two-shaft gas turbine engine having an intake fan, a centrifugal compressor, a can combustor, the main turbine and a free turbine, which is connected to a dynamometer to measure the output power. The temperature and pressure changes across each of the components are measured and the performance characteristics of the gas turbine engine are estimated at different RPMs.

In this experiment, buckling specimens of different cross-sections (such as z-section, L-section etc.) will be tested in a UTM and phenomenon of locak buckling and crippling will be illustrated.
