The Little Things: August 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 22, 2005. Our first day in China, what a mess! The sun is bright, the air is warm and it's our first day in China! Our plan is to get some currency (because we have zero) and then take the train into Shanghai to tool around for a while. We leave the hotel confused but did decipher that there is an ATM at the train station. DONG, DONG, DONG! No sooner than it pulls away, do we realize that we have no damn money to pay the fare! We look around and eventually come to the House of Flour (baker...

The Little Things: July 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 30, 2005. What is the plural of Platypus? I saw a kangaroo today! I can finally scratch that one off the list. Christine, Halley, Sarah and I went to the Healesville Sanctuary, which is a wildlife park in the Yarra Valley (wine country) an hour outside Melbourne. It's a pristine establishment and is supposed to be THE place to see all the cool Australian animals, such as: kangaroos, dingos, emus, wombats, tasmanian devils, platypus, in their natural habitat. We finally get on a moving tram...

The Little Things: December 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 18, 2005. Ho, ho.hot? I just had one of those Zen traveling moments during a walk this evening when I spotted Orion in the sky for the first time, which is the constellation I know best back home. It took me a moment notice that it's upside down (because I'm in the Southern Hemisphere). Then it just hit me just how far away from home I am right now.and there's no place I'd rather be. :-). Take care all and I'll be in touch in two weeks. Expect pictures. Posted by Eric O. @ 11:55 PM.

The Little Things: September 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 18, 2005. It's the thought that counts. This one is a bit tough to read but it says, "Do Not Drive Tiredly". We saw this while on a bike ride tour well outside of Beijing. There's a huge problem with garbage in Beijing because no one knows where to put it. This one was in our room in Dali. I never realized until I saw this how much we take shower safety for granted in the US. Needless to say, for the rest of the trip I kept an eye out for dangerous Landtowels. I was very excited. I wrot...

The Little Things: February 2006
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 06, 2006. If anyone calls, I'm on my yacht. On December 19th, after slaving over a paper for the first month of everyone else's summer vacation, I finally handed the sucker in and then hopped onto a plane with the rest of the Leicester Street crew on route to the Whitsunday’s in Queensland. We boarded a maxi sailing. We spent the first afternoon sailing from Airlie Beach to Blue Pearl Bay at Hayman. As long as I am tall. Whew! Dove for the first time and it. It's something I've wanted to...

The Little Things: October 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 08, 2005. Speaking of streets, Melbourne has some lovely ones and is an excellent city to be a pedestrian. Summer is breaking and things are looking marvelous so I thought I'd take a few pics of some of the beautiful architecture that is an aesthetic staple around here. This is Federation Square, which is considered the cultural hub of the city. There's always something going on down here like a free concert, a protest, a book fair or a celebrity meet and greet. This is the Melbourne Ba...

The Little Things: April 2006
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 10, 2006. And now.the rest of the story. As promised, part. 2 of the group trip to Queensland over the summer (or winter, depending on whose reading). I apologize for the 4-month time lag. Things have been pretty hectic over yonder this year. Here's something you don't get a home. A sign describing the variety of marine creatures that will hurt you when you go in the water. Makes you think twice and say 'yes" when they offer you a stinger suit. Lastly, below is a sample of the random desola...

The Little Things: November 2005
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 05, 2005. A walk in the woods. Sorry I haven't posted much lately. I've been up to my eyeballs in school. Here are a few pics from a walk I took in the Dandelong National Park, about one hour outside of Melbourne. It's one of the few large parks that is accessible by train so I'm going to be all over it for the next year. I was SOOO happy to get out of the city and actually soak up the sounds, smells and sights of the woods. They are huge here. Uh ohh, What's this? Hamish's birthday wo...

The Little Things: January 2006
http://eolson.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Z penguins are z cutest. How cute is that? The sun is almost gone when they first emerge from the water in groups. From far off you can. See their little white bellies bobbing to and fro as. Every once in a while you would see one penguin come up and nudge a resting penguin from behind and the one on the ground would jump up and continue to waddle forward. It was all very endearing to see them helping and looking out for each other. As one group went by,. The Rangers work real ...
