There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Documenting View GPO settings. Posted by David O'Connor. I had to document some View GPO settings recently and ended up creating a spreadsheet to document them. Where I could, I have added in the (default) best practice recommendation. There aren't too many, as I didn't want it to become this big doc with "if this, then that" for every setting. It is an xlsx, so doesnt look that good when google renders it. use excel. Cost to B...

virtually shonky: Pulling CDP info from each vmnic

There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Thursday, August 18, 2011. Pulling CDP info from each vmnic. Posted by David O'Connor. I dont trust the ‘Network Hint’ info you get from the vSphere client. Having said that, if you do not have access to the physical switches to query the config, it can be the only thing we have from the ESX side. I needed to try to ascertain whether the VLAN trunks on the physical switch ports for my hosts were configured with the same VLANs and so threw this together.

There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Posted by David O'Connor. I was tidying up a few bits on my blog the other day, and in my blogger admin portal I noticed that the spell check did not like VMware, my favourite was the second one :). Methinks their spellcheck reflects their attitude :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). VRealize Network Insight Overview. Stephen Foskett, Pack Rat Stephen Foskett, Pack Rat. A place for me to blog about everything technology and virtualization. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Where to get started with VMware certification. January 10, 2015. I have people ask me all the time where to start to get certified in VMware. VMware is one of the few certs that you need to take a class to get certified at the professional level. VMware Certified Associate (VCA). If you are unable to take the VCP ICM (Install Configure and Manage) class, VMware does offer the VCA (V...

virtually shonky: Find Orphaned Replica's in VMware View
http://www.blog.shonkyholdings.com/2012/12/find-orphaned-replicas-in-vmware-view.html
There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Find Orphaned Replica's in VMware View. Posted by David O'Connor. Find-OrphanedReplica.ps1 will traverse through all the VMs in the inventory, find the replica VMs, and then determine which (if any) are linked to that replica. It uses the '. Properties of the vm to make a (pretty good) guess as to which replica is associated with. So a few disclaimers; replica's are not scum, as the picture above describes :) and this script is ...

There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Monday, May 28, 2012. Setting up EMC Solutions Enabler for VASA. Posted by David O'Connor. A while ago, I wanted to set up the VASA providers for some EMC storage I use in a lab, and I found it rather difficult to find the info I needed, hopefully this will help others! I wont bother explaining how to follow the bouncing ball to import an OVF, just mention the caveat that you need to have configured an 'IP Pool' in your vCenter first. For our purposes, thi...

There is nothing shonky about virtualization :). Monday, December 12, 2011. VCenter 5 upgrade failure failed to execute SQL script. Posted by David O'Connor. I had the pleasure of doing a View 4.6 - 5.0 upgrade over the weekend, part of which involved upgrading the supporting vSphere 4.1 infrastructure. The View components upgraded fine (yay! But we hit the wall when attempting to upgrade vCenter from 4.1 - 5.0. As the installer attempted to update the database it would fail with the error:. ERROR [42000...
