Peter Cain joins the National Symphony Orchestra as bass clarinetist this season. Christoph Eschenbach will step down as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra at the end of the 2016-17 season. The area where he likely will have had the longest-lasting impact on the ensemble is in the hiring of new principal musicians during his tenure.
