Meine Hauptaufgabe besteht im Betreuen von Kindern und Jugendlichen, die gesichert durch eine Patenschaft, in die Schule gehen können. Schulen in Indien sind teuer und selbst die sogenannten Government Schulen sind mittlerweile gebührenpflichtig. Die beste Voraussetzung für eine gute und sichere Zukunft sind staatlich anerkannte Privatschulen. Alle meine Kinder gehen auf solch eine Schule. Kinder in Government Schulen:. Kalkutta ist die Hauptstadt von West Bengal, einem kommunistischen Staat in dem ansonsten demokratischen Indien. Wie viele Menschen hier genau leben, weiß man nicht. Aber man schätzt ca. 18 Millionen auf einer Fläche von 200 km². Große Einkaufszentren, Luxusrestaurants und bequeme Kinosäle lassen den enormen Wirtschaftswachstum erahnen. Leider können und dürfen nur Wenige an dem großen Glück teilhaben.

Ich heiße Eva Kleekamm, lebe seit 2002 in Kalkutta und arbeite ehrenamtlich in meinen eigenen Projekten. Nach Kalkutta kam ich zum ersten Mal im Jahre 2000 und arbeitete bei Mutter Teresa als Volunteer im Sterbehaus. Für mich als gelernte Bankkauffrau eine völlig neue Welt.
