So where should a discussion of volcanology begin? We'll begin with the most commonly seen form: the stratovolcano. Stratovolcanoes are well known for producing such pieces as Mount St. Helens. They typically produce explosive eruptions rather than fluid lava, although fluid lava is almost invariably extruded.
