Adventures in the Westerly Centaur 'FREE'. August 29, 2016. October 24, 2016. Earth, Wind and …Fire. There was no Wind. But whilst playing with Earth we almost had Fire. Two out of three ain’t bad, as Meatloaf once said. I suppose I should explain:. The weekend started so promisingly. You might remember in a previous post. I think I understand all the drawbacks of owning an outboard. They’re smelly, heavy, temperamental, steal-able, environmentally unfriendly. I get all those points. A friend from work w...

http://www.sailing-free.co.uk/2016/09
Adventures in the Westerly Centaur 'FREE'. September 19, 2016. Event Order or Written Order? I’ve nearly caught up with writing up most of our excursions so far. I’ve published them with the date that they happened rather than when I got round to writing them. I’ll try and be more punctual from now on! September 13, 2016. September 13, 2016. We spent the weekend aboard on the mooring preparing the salon area for the same treatment as the v-berth. Removing the saggy 40 year old headlining. Autarkia : Tril...

TriloBoat Talk: May 2015
http://triloboats.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
I'll be writing, here, about TRILOBOATS. Square boats' and our life on the water in SE Alaska. It's a blend of engineless, junk rig sailing, shoestring living and voluntary simplicity, with a few yarns thrown in for good measure. Come on aboard, and let's tip a cup o' kindness! Please visit our home site at www.TRILOBOATS.com. Anke and I are building our next boat, and writing about it at ABargeInTheMaking.blogspot.com. Access to the net comes and goes, so I'll be writing in fits and spurts. Live-aboards...

The Sailing House Barge Autarkia. Various Harrison Lake, River and Fraser. Sunday, November 6, 2016. A Photo Essay From Launch Day. At the boat launch ramp in Mission Harbour. I was a bit worried because the river is low this time of year, and also the tide was out too. But Norm from Agonic Boat Movers, the ever consummate professional has launched and retrieved many large boats at this ramp and alleviated my worries! And float she did! Right now drawing about 5 inches of water. Autarkia tied up at the d...

The Sailing House Barge Autarkia. Various Harrison Lake, River and Fraser. Thursday, December 15, 2016. I sure am looking forward to the typical Lower Mainland winter weather to return - otherwise known as rain. It's nice though - the colder temperatures and the sun - but it is stopping me from getting some things done, like bringing Rosebud home for one thing. But this weather down in the harbour is nice, the boat is cosy, and we're looking forward to being here much more often. Its amazing how quickly ...

The Sailing House Barge Autarkia: January 2017
http://junkrighouseboat.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html
The Sailing House Barge Autarkia. Various Harrison Lake, River and Fraser. Monday, January 30, 2017. A Good Start On An Off Center Board. I made the decision some time ago not to use conventional leeboards. There are several reasons: The windward board provides no function. Also, since Autarkia will heel very little, an off center board able to bear the load on either tack will be effective enough for us. A single side mounted off center board is used by Jim Michalak in many of his designs. The cold weat...
