Until three years ago, the oldest company in the world was the construction company Kongo Gumi. Headquartered in Osaka, Japan. Friday, September 21, 2007. Randy Pausch: an inspiring video. Randy Pausch is a professor at Carnegie Mellon who believes in making programming, specifically for entertainment purposes, accessible to everybody. Sadly, Professor Pausch has an untreatable form of cancer which will take his life in the next few months. This week, he gave a talk which is truly inspirational. This is a person I wish I could have gotten to know. Wish somebody had told me about this a long time ago:. Tuesday, September 04, 2007.

Exploring: Amazon's CloudFront CDN: disappointing
http://bmaurer.blogspot.com/2008/11/amazons-cloudfront-cdn-disappointing.html
Tuesday, November 18, 2008. Amazon's CloudFront CDN: disappointing. I took a look at CloudFront. Today They have really good intentions. The CDN space is quite a mess - it could easily be a pay-as-you-go, self-service industry. However, players such as Akamai try to make a large profit. The CDN space is especially hard for small sites - you can't get any reasonable pricing unless you are doing high levels of traffic. They aren't using it on amazon.com. They use Level(3)'s CDN! Wow gold, buy wow gold.

Geeking with Greg: Jeff Dean keynote at WSDM 2009
http://glinden.blogspot.com/2009/02/jeff-dean-keynote-at-wsdm-2009.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Jeff Dean keynote at WSDM 2009. Google Fellow Jeff Dean gave an excellent keynote talk at the recent WSDM 2009. Conference that had tidbits on Google I had not heard before. Particularly impressive is Google's attention to detail on performance and their agility in deployment over the last decade. Were filming it. With any luck, the video should be available on their site in a few weeks. In addition to this post, you might enjoy Michael Bendersky's notes. Posted by Greg Linden.
