The view from a volunteer volcanologist. I am a proud supporter of the Oxford Comma. What is the Oxford comma. It is the comma right after the penultimate item and right before the “and” or “or” in a list of three or more items. For example,. My friend, sister, two cousins, and I all have birthdays in January. The last comma in that sentence is the Oxford, or serial. Comma, and you are not required to use it in English grammar. My favorite fruits are grapes, apples and watermelon. Makes sense, right?

The view from a volunteer volcanologist. Today I (re)learned that “seldom” is an adverb and that, therefore, “seldomly” is incorrect (/redundant). However, this word is. Used in everyday language; “often” is also an adverb and is used much more. As shown in Ex. 1, “often” is the opposite of “seldom,” and many people, including myself, recognize that “often” is never followed by “-ly.” They are similar, yo! Enjoy your grammar tip of the day!
