Message from the Executive Director. There is a myth that seniors are well looked after by our society. While many are, many seniors live alone and die alone. They are largely forgotten by today’s fast paced society. Many people do not pay much attention to seniors because they are considered a non-productive part of our society. Steve Chan, Executive Director. We give seniors a sense of community. We actively address the social, recreational, nutritional and informational needs of low-income seniors.

The downtown core, including downtown east and downtown south, is home to a vast population of low-income seniors. Our seniors receive minimal financial support from the government, and often no support from family members. For the truly impoverished seniors of Vancouver, although their living space is often no larger than 10 square feet, there is little motivation to venture outside their tiny living quarters. Their bathrooms are often shared facilities with an average of 25 people to one bathroom.

NHP - Downtown Eastside. NHP - Downtown South. NHP - Chinese Outreach Project. NEW PROGRAM: Continental Seniors Centre. We work together with seniors living in the downtown south and the downtown eastside to build and strengthen our community by developing a healthy community spirit that enables seniors to help themselves, and one another. VSMS works to improve the lives of seniors living in SRA (Single Room Accommodation) units by establishing social support systems, run by the seniors themselves.

Drop in Hours of the Seniors Centre on Saturday is from 8am to 2pm. Seniors Centre: Breakfast M to Sat 8:00am to 9:45am. Lunch, M to Sat 11:45am to 1:00pm. Social Bingo M and Sat 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Karaoke Singing Class W 12:30pm to 2pm. Tai Chi Class F 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Music Group F 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Other Programs and Special Events:- Please contact us for details. Info and Health Workshop. Chinese New Year Celebration Party. Community Kitchen: In 3 hotels and social housing, twice a month.
