Adventures in the Great Plains and Beyond. Day Six – Ironman Chasing. This one will have to be abridged, but I’ll start with my best image of the day first, if no one reads further…. Our supercell in Kansas looks otherworldly as it rotates above the plains. We set up west of Scott City to wait for cumulus towers to start to build. Towers build and fizzle near the dry line in western Kansas. A look at the base of our storm immediately after it produced a tornado. Close since we had a good road network and...

But, I still had to take a picture of one of our vehicles as we crossed. We finally settled in Van Buren, AR for the night. We made a long haul from Blacksburg to Texarkana (900 miles) for the first night, and then a second long day to intercept this storm on day 2.
