Wabi-Sabi Wanderings

Treasuring the simplicity, delightful quirks, and beauty of family and farmstead. And then there's that crafting thing. Monday, 23 March 2015. The few balmy days we've had have called us outdoors. Where this barn cat basks in the sun, the heights protecting him from the exuberant 100 lb puppy. The promise of affection makes this one brave enough to come down from her usual high perch. The chickens are released into the sloppy yard. As are the ducks. There are three of them now. Posted by W-S Wanderings.

Wabi-Sabi Wanderings: Revamped Recyclables - Gift Tins

http://wabisabiwanderings.blogspot.com/2011/01/revamped-recyclables-gift-tins.html

Treasuring the simplicity, delightful quirks, and beauty of family and farmstead. And then there's that crafting thing. Sunday, 23 January 2011. Revamped Recyclables - Gift Tins. It starts out with me trying to be cool. I refer to this image:. You see, I want to share this fun reusable gift packaging idea. Using the first Revamped Recyclables tutorial. I adapted the decoupaged tins to become gift tins, simply by hot gluing a wide ribbon onto the insides of the can. This makes the girls in the house smile.

Wabi-Sabi Wanderings: Stall Tactics

http://wabisabiwanderings.blogspot.com/2015/03/stall-tactics.html

Treasuring the simplicity, delightful quirks, and beauty of family and farmstead. And then there's that crafting thing. Saturday, 14 March 2015. Look at what arrived today! Horse stall fronts, two of them, purchased second hand. Eldest and Eldest Son were rallied to haul one of the stall fronts into the emerging stable. There were interested onlookers. And a humorous young man who wanted to demonstrate his strength. The horses are entertained. Even sleepy Nova perks up. Posted by W-S Wanderings. Young me...

Wabi-Sabi Wanderings: Beeswax Ornaments

Treasuring the simplicity, delightful quirks, and beauty of family and farmstead. And then there's that crafting thing. Monday, 2 January 2012. So, I know it's rather after the holidays fact, but here are the ornaments I mentioned how to make earlier ( click here for the how to. Gettin' my creative on in Picnik. Tried to make it look like I wrote in the snow (really, really neatly - so neatly as to be font-like). Star with a glass bead. Looks lovely in the sunshine. Posted by W-S Wanderings. What a great...

Wabi-Sabi Wanderings: Winter Playground

http://wabisabiwanderings.blogspot.com/2015/02/winter-playground.html

Treasuring the simplicity, delightful quirks, and beauty of family and farmstead. And then there's that crafting thing. Saturday, 21 February 2015. Winter is hanging on tight in these parts. We've been making the best of it. The livestock have doggedly worked at de-haying the barn over the past few months, which means we have a hay playground again. Nova, our Maremma Sheepdog. And when we are outside or in the barn, he figures we. Are the livestock he needs to guard. There is a new toy in the barn. Hikin...

Apologies, and revisting Running Waters. Sep 24th, 2015 at 12:44 PM. Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Health issues meant that I haven't wielded my camera at all in the last few months. Don't despair though, I have a trip planned between now and Christmas. Deb at Larapinta Creative has posted an extensive blog on the June Running Waters camp, featuring art works and photos from all five of us. Check it out here. Running Waters Art Works - Part 3. Cape Town - Part 2. Oct 31st, 2016 at 1:55 PM. We walked from our hotel on the Foreshore to the V&A (Victoria and Alfred) Waterfront. It used to be the major dockyards for the city but now has largely been gentrified and upgraded for tourists and locals alike. The main docks are now elsewhere but it sometimes still gets some maritime trade. Though we walked through relatively early on a Saturday morning, we saw plenty of people out jogging, cycling, even dragon boating. Cape Town - Part 1. Last year....

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: The Simple Beauty of France

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-simple-beauty-of-france.html

Thursday, July 23, 2015. The Simple Beauty of France. Le cœur a ses raisons, que la raison ne connaît point. I spent a whirlwind five days in France this past weekend. My love affair with this country began when I was sixteen, and like all affairs it burned strong in its early years. I spent three months there as an exchange student, then returned for a Christmas visit four years later when I was studying in Belfast. Armed with a kick ass dress and a good camera, I promptly fell back into love, hard.

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: summer holidays, at last

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-holidays-at-last.html

Monday, June 29, 2015. Summer holidays, at last. Tired faces, ready to be done school! Pioneer costumes optional for summer fun. Hands full of wonder. The last week of school was tough on us both; she was home from her daycare and was here in the care of my mom and my mother-in-law. She cried every morning when we left, and we literally counted down the days. When I got home on Wednesday I noticed a curious spotty rash all over her torso. I'll drop by here now and then when I have fun stuff to share.

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: June 2015

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Farm chores, beach pictures. Photos by Maureen of Twig and Toadstool. My dear husband faithfully tends to our animals during the winter when I tend to stick a bit close to the wood stove and my knitting. I am so appreciative of that gesture! So, in the summer when I'm home and he continues to go out to work, I take over the chores. I tell him. You'll be big enough then to show them who's boss. And for the pup and make sure their water bowls are replenished, then step inside. Havin...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: December 2014

Thursday, December 11, 2014. Now She Is Two. Dear, dear Norah,. Today you are two! You are my little dawn-treader. I hear you up at four in the morning, and I nudge your dad so he can try yet again to comfort you back to sleep. I know deep down that I will soon find my way to your side. I never can resist it when you say, "Mama.nuuussss! This morning we took a bath together before everyone else got up. I remembered the night of your birth. We love you so very much. We are so thankful you're here....Faith...

The Knitty Gritty Homestead: January 2015

http://theknittygrittyhomestead.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 30, 2015. To be home, with free time. We didn't realise how busy we've been until suddenly, we weren't. Jude's final performance as a raccoon twin in "Peter Pan Jr." was last Sunday, and this coming weekend will be the first since September that we've been able to spend completely at home. We've adjusted to the busyness of ferrying him to and from rehearsals every weekend and are eager to spend two days in a row at home. Oh, how I love home! Everyone seems calmer and quieter. Then they br...

Pumpkin Patch - Static and Silence

Aug 11th, 2015 at 2:33 PM. Last summer we grew our first pumpkins. Having never grown them before, we weren't quite prepared for how the plant literally took over the garden. The runners seemed to grow inches overnight! 1 comment Leave a comment. Aug 12th, 2015 11:01 am (UTC). 1 comment Leave a comment. Confessions of a Pioneer Woman. Meet Me at Mikes. Oct 8th, 2015 at 5:27 PM. Over the winter we had a crop of beetroot on the go. It wasn't quite ready to eat until spring, and then we had a glut! We could have done what we always did, roasted them and then tossed them into a salad with some sharp fetta and rocket, but one needs to be creative when faced with a glut. First, I tried making these beetroot burgers. I knew I had to try them. Instead of a single square of chocolate in each muffin, I mixed through the same amount of dark choc chips through...
