Wade and Megan in Beirut. Keeping up with friends and family while teaching in Lebanon. Monday, May 28, 2012. Random Ruin VI: The Temple of Echmoun. Wade and his fellow history teacher, Nick, took a Sunday excursion to Lebanon's largest remaining Phoenician ruin, the Temple of Echmoun. The temple sits about two kilometers outside of Sidon, which is a quick 45 minute drive south of Beirut. We spent a few minutes exploring the scattered pieces before climbing the main temple. The construction of the fi...

Wade and Megan in Beirut. Keeping up with friends and family while teaching in Lebanon. Friday, April 6, 2012. Wade and Mike had some quality father-in-law/son-in-law time while driving around the Metn. Nancy, Megan, and Jane decided to stay in Beirut for the day and let the men-folk go exploring. Still driving up towards Mount Sannine, Wade and Mike stumbled upon the Khounchara Monastery and Vineyard. That's right, Lebanese Geek Catholic monks and wine. A fantastic combination. The view of Baskinta.

Wade and Megan in Beirut. Keeping up with friends and family while teaching in Lebanon. Sunday, September 4, 2011. The baby is due in less than two months (inshallah), so the end of Ramadan gave us our last chance to go on a childless vacation for a while. Cyprus, just a thirty minute plane flight from Beirut, was the perfect getaway. The view from the top of St. Hilarion Castle, just outside of Girne in North Cyprus. Driving out the Karpaz in our rental. The view of Golden Beach from an eastern hilltop.

Wade and Megan in Beirut. Keeping up with friends and family while teaching in Lebanon. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Bombs and Beach Clubs. On Friday, a roadside bomb hit a UN armored personnel carrier. The bomb went off on the main road just north of Sidon. Nobody knows for sure who did it or why, but in keeping with Lebanese tradition there are plenty of conspiracy theories. Some are pointing fingers at Syria. Above all, Lebanese beach clubs are private. They have to go to considerable lengths to block ou...

Hello, Friends. I am so long overdue on a post; I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve dined at new restaurants, read new books, traveled to some cool places and even cooked some. A few new dishes. Most importantly, our sweet Laney is 7 months old! She is a reminder to me of how long it’s been since I’ve given this blog any TLC. A couple of recent photos of Miss Laney. My inspiration for getting back on the blog is Café at Pharr. Today I ate lunch at Café at Pharr. Feed You can leave a response.

On June 22nd, 2012 by Betsy – 7 Comments. I always fought the Kindle. I love books. I love the feel of them in my hands and the smell of the pages, especially old books. I enjoy the conversations started when strangers ask you about the book you’re reading because they’ve seen the cover. With a Kindle or Nook, you just look like you’re reading a screen and plugged into yet another technological device. So here are my first three reads on the Kindle:. 11 August, 2011. I started noticing that Maddox would pull on his right ear constantly. I thought this meant his right ear was hurting. Right? After the sixth ear infection, I asked Dr. Ricks (new pedi since Dr. Bodron retired) to refer us to an ENT. I just couldn't stand seeing Maddox sick all the time.
