Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia. Friday, June 15, 2012. The West Coast of New Zealand. We awoke early and set off towards the west coast. It was amazing how different Lake Hawea looked the next morning with the sun coming up. There were a few things I just couldn’t get tired of seeing: the snow capping the mountains, the mist, the lakes, the rolling hills and of course, the sheep. I loved the location of this ranch with the mountains right in their backyard. We stopped in Haast for some fis...

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia: April 2012

http://waiaway.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia. Friday, April 20, 2012. Our overnight bus ride to Koh Tao was okay – we were picked up at our hotel and dropped off in the backpacker area of Koh San Road in Bangkok. Here we waited for at least an hour before being loaded onto the bus. They were very efficient giving passengers various stickers to wear so they could shepherd us onto the right bus and ferry (some were going to Koh Samui or other various islands). A sign with my name led us to our driver and ...

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia: September 2011

http://waiaway.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia. Thursday, September 22, 2011. We stayed one night in Semarang just so we could catch a flight to Pangkalan Ban in Kalimantan – better known as Borneo. The flight took one hour and was uneventful. Our guide, Joe, and tour operator Mr Yatno were at the tiny airport to greet us. The buildings to harvest the swallows' nests were best visible from the river:. I was delighted by how cool it was and surprised how quiet – I had expected to a cacophony of sounds.

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia. Tuesday, November 29, 2011. An Ecolodge in Southwest Cambodia. Rainbow Lodge – Koh Kong. Off we went to Rainbow Lodge via taxi. Rainbow Lodge is an eco-lodge located along a river east of Koh Kong, near the village of Tatai in the southwest of Cambodia. We had three nights booked for 70 dollars a night – room and three meals included in the price; a great deal! Bridge, then walk down underneath to where the boat would be waiting. That’s Ian going down ...

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia: December 2011

http://waiaway.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Wendie and Ian's Adventures in Southeast Asia. Friday, December 30, 2011. Cu Chi is a district of greater HCMC and during the war had a population of about 80,000. The tunnel network became legendary during the 60s for its role in helping the VC gain control of this large farming area. Built over 25 years, there were more than 250 km of tunnels – a poorly equipped peasant army’s response to America’s high tech ordinance. A camouflaged trapdoor opens to reveal bamboo spikes below -. And a trap with metal ...
