Home of the annual Waipu Highland Games. The Waipu Caledonian Society was formed in 1870 to run the newly instituted Highland Games in 1871. There had been sports days in 1869 and 1870. Highland and National Dancing Competitions are run under the rules of the Piping and Dancing Assn. of N.Z. for all age groups from beginners to seniors with Highland Dances and Reels, Irish Jigs, Reels, and Hornpipes and Sailors Hornpipe.
