MummaBumma: March 2014
http://mummabumma.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 2, 2014. Elliot Anne, Fabulously Four. Oh sweet girl, Happy Birthday. You turn four years old today, which sounds rather grown up to me, especially as I look through all these baby photos of you. Look how teeny weeny you were four years ago! And four years later you are bigger, but you still sleep the same way. You love to cuddle with your Daddy too. At the moment he's actually your favorite person in the house. If Daddy's around, I might as well not even bother! Your independence is flouri...

Petit Coin de Parapluie: Personal Statement
http://petit-coin-de-parapluie.blogspot.com/2011/02/personal-statement.html
Petit Coin de Parapluie. Stories and pictures collected in France. Wednesday, 2 February 2011. The other day at work, I was asked to read through and correct the so-called Personal Statement of someone's son. who was applying for a coveted place on a degree course at LSE. The French applicant (aged 23) had written the statement in English, so maybe the pompous style was partly due to the fact it wasn't his native language (or style). I try to be open-minded and non-judgemental, I really do. Should they r...

Petit Coin de Parapluie: Great Expectations
http://petit-coin-de-parapluie.blogspot.com/2011/02/great-expectations.html
Petit Coin de Parapluie. Stories and pictures collected in France. Wednesday, 9 February 2011. Sometimes I wonder: all these enthusiastic excursions and activities. all these Wednesdays planned to perfection and overflowing with good intentions and multiple ideas for healthy, outdoor fun. Who gets the most pleasure out of it all? Throw that question out today to the two little boys in this household, and you'll get a quick answer flung back: Maman. Yes, decidedly, Maman. Back home. Just doing exactly...

Petit Coin de Parapluie: November 2010
http://petit-coin-de-parapluie.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Petit Coin de Parapluie. Stories and pictures collected in France. Tuesday, 30 November 2010. For the past thirty years or so, my department has subcontracted the work it can't do in-house to a handful of local, independent translators ( do I need to point out that I wasn't personally involved in this for the first 24 years? Or, to paint a more vivid image: most of our subcontractors have been working with my department since the day I was born. The results were radical. So, we duly made out our reports ...

MummaBumma: Little Sisters, Or The Tale Of The Freaky Easter Bunny
http://mummabumma.blogspot.com/2013/03/little-sisters-or-tale-of-freaky-easter.html
Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Little Sisters, Or The Tale Of The Freaky Easter Bunny. UmmmmI might have overreacted tonight. I might have regressed to my 7 year old little sister self. I might have had a massive tantrum that made my eldest son cry. Yeah Once a little sister, always a little sister. Let me explain. When I was a kid, my brother used to terrorize me by messing with my imagination. We would be swimming at a pool and he'd take me down to the deep end and then suddenly yell "SHARK! We do NOT say ...

MummaBumma: Happy Birthday Owen & William!
http://mummabumma.blogspot.com/2013/10/happy-birthday-owen-william.html
Thursday, October 17, 2013. Happy Birthday Owen and William! Is it just me, or didn't we just celebrate not that long ago? Yikes, the years are flying by and all of a sudden, you're seven years old. Wherever did my little guys go? It seems incredible to me that in seven short years you've gone from this. That's a lot of growing and changing and learning and a whole heckuvva lot of eating in a relatively short period of time, wouldn't you say? You're still best buds, the two of you. You astonished me, Owe...

MummaBumma: September 2012
http://mummabumma.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 7, 2012. I'm in a tiny state of shock, I believe. Not only are the boys almost six years old and in grade one, but their teensy weensy baby sister, the one I gave birth to, like, uh, yesterday. Started preschool this morning. Yuh. I know, right? We got these two adorable photos of them the other day, and realised even if we didn't get a cute photo of them on the first day of school, these shots would make us happy nonetheless! We've abandoned our babies! Amber and I drove back to the sc...

MummaBumma: Short But Sweet
http://mummabumma.blogspot.com/2013/01/short-but-sweet.html
Friday, January 25, 2013. Some things I don't want to forget. The way Elly says "thlum" instead of "thumb" and "paul" for "small". "Dese mittens are too paul for my thlumb, mama! Sitting at the library and watching the big brothers walk away from me as they hold Elly's hands, taking her to the water fountain on their own. Their gentleness and protectiveness made my heart grow about three sizes. Owen's random hug, kiss or I Love You, Mummy attacks. Nothing beats a quick fierce hug from a small boy.

Petit Coin de Parapluie. Stories and pictures collected in France. Saturday, 29 January 2011. From the Mouths of Babes. 1/ We're driving along, just me and him, when - entirely out of the blue - BB decides to treat me to his most comprehensive and breathtaking demonstration of bilinguilism so far. Maman, in English, CAR. En français, VOITURE! In English, HOUSE. En français, MAISON! In English, WINDOW. En français, FENETRE! I am so astounded I almost crash the voiture. C'est TRES joli ce que tu as fait!
