Stephen Mitchell's Blog: Persuading Ubuntu to recognise my Netgear WG121 Wireless Adapter
http://stephenmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/08/persuading-ubuntu-to-recognise-my.html
Sunday, 5 August 2012. Persuading Ubuntu to recognise my Netgear WG121 Wireless Adapter. Fortunately, finding the packages without the benefit of a package manager proved easier than I was expecting. In fact, Ubuntu's documentation pages include a tutorial covering exactly this situation. I downloaded all three packages, and placed them in the root of a disk partition that the Ubuntu install has access to. I also downloaded drivers for the Netgear WG121. The WG121 drivers I downloaded included a folder c...

Stephen Mitchell's Blog: Formatting source code on Blogger with SyntaxHighlighter

Sunday, 12 August 2012. Formatting source code on Blogger with SyntaxHighlighter. A Javascript code syntax highlighter written and maintained by Alex Gorbatchev. It's completely self-contained, and a hosted copy is provided for use with services like Blogger that don't have the facility to store uploaded files. Which can be changed by modifying the CSS import:. Link href='http:/ alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/current/styles/shThemeEmacs.css' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'/. This is no more fiddly than surro...

Stephen Mitchell's Blog: How I started my own URL shortener, and why I wanted to
http://stephenmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/11/how-i-started-my-own-url-shortener-and.html
Saturday, 17 November 2012. How I started my own URL shortener, and why I wanted to. The Yourls website has a simple tutorial on how to install and configure the script. Although part of the process involves editing a config file by hand, which isn't particularly user-friendly, the documentation is good enough that it isn't a problem. I had the whole thing up and running in about 20 minutes, including uploading the files. Doesn't look quite right. A quick visit to the Yourls Plugin List.

Stephen Mitchell's Blog: Two Months with my Amazon Kindle Touch - A Review
http://stephenmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/07/two-months-with-my-amazon-kindle-touch.html
Tuesday, 17 July 2012. Two Months with my Amazon Kindle Touch - A Review. It's two months to the day since I took delivery of my Amazon Kindle Touch, so I think it's time to write a review. When the Kindle is switched on for the first time, it displays it's own instruction book. This is stored permanently on the device if you ever need to refer back to it. It's very clear and comprehensive, but the Kindle's user interface is so intuitive that you'll probably never need to read it. On the subject of cases...

Stephen Mitchell's Blog: How I integrated a Blogger blog into my website - and why I wanted to
http://stephenmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/07/how-i-integrated-blogger-blog-into-my.html
Sunday, 1 July 2012. How I integrated a Blogger blog into my website - and why I wanted to. I'm having a big overhaul of my online presence, in an attempt to make an impression on my search engine rankings. This might be a pipe dream since I share my name with several pretty influential people, but it can't hurt to try. Although simply copying the code into a PHP file and adding parser("http:/ feeds.feedburner.com/StephenMitchell? I'm now at the stage where the script appears to be stable. Over the n...
