And this too shall pass ...

And this too shall pass . Early morning rise in Berlin, then in the car for the long drive to Frankfurt. It should be noted zero David Hasselhoff sightings or even name utterances were to be had this trip - Germans are too infatuated with Robbie Williams. Checked into Frankfurt hotel, off to city center for a spell, then off to Frankfurt Stadion. The Brazil/France 9PM match. Watched the miserable England loss on the big screens pre-game. Barthez punches one out. Bring the Brazilian beats. Thx to everyone...

And this too shall pass ...: Germany: Day Five

http://walkathon.blogspot.com/2006/06/germany-day-five.html

And this too shall pass . Uneventful drive from Mannheim to Dortmund. Parked at University, took bus to the stadium. Sat with Anheuser-Busch execs and were pretty much overwhelmed by this Brazil-Ghana matchup. Prematch score wagers - Harry. Choose near the bottom. Claire, Tony, Ryan @ Westfalenstadion. Pele and Franz Beckenbauer were 30 rows behind us. 3 huge futbol superstars (and Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano). 1st Brazilian goal via Ronaldo. 3 Brazilian goals, 3 Brazilian gals. View my complete profile.

And this too shall pass ...: Germany: Day Seven

http://walkathon.blogspot.com/2006/06/germany-day-seven.html

And this too shall pass . Another day away from futbol. Walked down to the Sony Style store for memory sticks and general tech gawking. The HD camcorder/monitor combo was ace. Ready to pitch the 'O Claire' pilot to Rede Globo. Ryan C gets comfy in true Sony Style. Then took a Tauntzienstraße-bound cab to hit the Adidas superstore - our driver ended up being one of the locals used for the World Cup PR campaign. Walked past Marcelo Balboa. Max Beez - Taxifahrer prima. Mod for it in Peek and Cloppenburg.

And this too shall pass ...: Germany: Day Three

http://walkathon.blogspot.com/2006/06/germany-day-three.html

And this too shall pass . RYAN B: Drove from Munich to Stuttgart today via the A8 Autobahn, which had a few surprising spots of stopped traffic. We never did determine exactly why. The trip had a very similar feel to a mid-Wisconsin summer drive. Windmill off the A8. Was an easy straight shot to the hotel once in town, then took a taxi to Gottlieb-Daimler Stadion. Ryan C. also managed to snap some amazing photos. Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard 2nd half. Terry hugs Becks after the match. The Group at Gottlieb.

And this too shall pass ...: Germany: Day Six

http://walkathon.blogspot.com/2006/06/germany-day-six.html

And this too shall pass . Morning music Berlin videos - Rudi was singing Arlo Guthrie's Stadt von New-Orleans. We escaped das Hotel. Which sits on the west side of a street where the Wall once ran - and headed straight for coffee then past Potsdamer Platz. To the Brandenberg Gate and embassy row. Inside the giant futbol in Pariser Platz. A middling crowd outside Hotel Adlon got our attention as an Indian convoy headed out. A local claimed it was Manmohan Singh, but we remain skeptical. Down past the Spree.

And this too shall pass ...: Germany: Day Eight

http://walkathon.blogspot.com/2006/06/germany-day-eight.html

And this too shall pass . Slept in a bit late, awoke to a morning show which pitted German and Argentinian fans in mechanical bull riding. Similarly, we've seen lots of evidence that there's lots of Wild West love over here. A bunch of mechanical bull. Lunch then onto the underground up to Olympic Stadion. Worst . first half . EVER. Borowski and Klose embrace after Klose's stellar equalizer. Goalie extraordinaire Jens Lehmann's winning PK save. German drums along the Mohawk. Out in the streets.

Nuremberg Trails: Tag Vier: Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/07/tag-vier-please-dont-take-my-sunshine.html

Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Tag Vier: Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away. I'm making two posts back-to-back because this is a tremendous pain in the ass. Another day full of rain and gloominess - thanks, Nuremberg ( Thuremberg. Again I didn't really have a goal in mind other than making it to the Reichsparteitagsgelände. A pretty neat fountain. The below picture is a pretty poor panoramic stitching (you can clearly see where the overlap is - yeah, I fucked it up). Sorry, I dare not use the flash. More on t...

Nuremberg Trails: August 2010

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 5, 2010. Tag Zwölf: Die Ende. The trip is winding down and today is the last day. For some reason Swiss Air won't let me check in for the second leg of my flight so I better not be sitting next to some fat smelly Swiss fucker. There really wasn't much on the itinerary for the day. Just last-minute shopping and fotos. Yeah, and it rained again. To which I say. FUCK YOU, NUREMBERG. Anyway, here are some fotos. No idea what this building is. Might this be the last döner I'll ever eat? Yes, ...

Nuremberg Trails: Tag Zehn: There Ain't No Partei Like a Reichspartei

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/08/tag-zehn-there-aint-no-partei-like.html

Thursday, August 5, 2010. Tag Zehn: There Ain't No Partei Like a Reichspartei. The weather reports were taunting me. They alleged the day would be sunny. I did not believe it because of the entire time I've been here I've seen the sun shine for maybe 5 minutes max. But I figured I should try anyway. Today I would once again endeavor to visit the Reichsparteitagsgelände on a good day for fotos. This is the "shower." Notice that you can't actually stand up in it. Random shot down the main drag. After a lit...

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/08/tag-sieben-what-is-pigeon.html

Monday, August 2, 2010. Tag Sieben: What is Pigeon? After the destruction of several hundred thousand brain cells the morning snuck up and said we had to go to Frankenwinheim. Population roughly 1000 . although it does have its own Wiki page. Another train ride out, and then Wolfgang picked us up at the bahnhof. A short drive later and we were at the home of the Mad Prof's relatives, Otto und Lydia. Due to extreme unsightliness the family will not be pictured here. You think I'm kidding. The door to Wolf...

Nuremberg Trails: Tag Elf: Bob Sanders Day

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/08/tag-elf-bob-sanders-day.html

Thursday, August 5, 2010. Tag Elf: Bob Sanders Day. The plan today was to take a train down to Regensburg, but when I woke up I just wasn't feeling it. The kind of overarching theme of this thing is that sightseeing is extremely low on the priority list, so it didn't have a lot of appeal for me. So was on my mind on my birthday? I headed out and took a look over the city from the Kaiserburg. This is what the weather looked like on my birthday:. 4 8 15 16 23 42. The most unglaublich thing happened on the ...

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/08/tag-sechs-bilbos-eleventyfirst.html

Sunday, August 1, 2010. Tag Sechs: Bilbo's Eleventyfirst. The Mad Professor was kicked out of the archive at 2pm on Friday so we got an early start nach our destination - Annafest. We took the train down to Forchheim and walked up to the wald. I took a few fotos of the walk up, just a quiet little neighborhood. This little street will take you to a wondrous fairy-tale land. An innocent-looking forest path conceals hidden treasures within. Getting cute with Pano. Not a very good foto. 24 Juli 2010 - 6 Aug...

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010/08/tag-acht-day-no-one-saw-coming.html

Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Tag Acht: A Day No One Saw Coming. It is not to be believed because as of 1 August,. Bavaria has a total smoking ban in place. There were already various state bans but now it's the entire country. So after awaking to a smoke-free. There were A LOT more than these. Then it was time to head out to Bamberg. But not before taking a foto of the cigarette machine attached to the neighbor's house. I hope you read the Wikipedia link above because I don't feel like writing on and on abou...

Nuremberg Trails: July 2010

http://nurembergtrails.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 29, 2010. I established one goal and one goal only for today: find and obtain a döner. Upon setting out I saw this gentleman and his family walking down the sidewalk. He was wearing a vest that says "Born in the U.S.A.". Only one person on this sidewalk was actually born in the USA. There was a place I had spied selling döners a couple of days ago and I was pretty sure where it was. But the more I looked for it, the more I felt like I was in the middle of Labyrinth. O döner, my döner!
