WALKING DIARIES

A collection of diaries, written about some of the long distance walks I have done. Friday, October 05, 2012. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. 169; Les Singleton. August 22, 1993. This is the diary I wrote for my third LDP (long distance path). I was still new to long walks, having only done Offa's Dyke and the Coast to Coast, (on which I had ALL my stuff stolen - thanks to the pack carrier 'service'), but I was learning! I am told that there is more ascent on the PCP than if you were to climb Everest!

WALKING DIARIES: July 2006

http://walkdiaries.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html

A collection of diaries, written about some of the long distance walks I have done. Friday, July 28, 2006. Helen - our very favourite barmaid! Read all about her 'antics' in the diary! My brother Colin and I at the start of the walk in Helmsley. An account of the 110 mile walk from. With the 48 miles Tabular hills link back to Helmsely added on at the end). Day One – Carlton Grange to Sutton Bank – 13(ish) miles. Nothing could be further from the truth as he parked my car with precision, using that big s...

walkpeaks: November 2011

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Wednesday, 30 November 2011. In search of Autumn. This year has been a really strange one, weather-wise. It's been far too warm, and it seems to have taken nature by surprise! Nothing seems to know what to do. Flowers are blooming when they shouldn't, birds are laying eggs (a clutch of 7 ducklings appeared last week), and the leaves don't know what colour to be! Not in THAT position, I haven't!

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Friday, 30 December 2011. Lack of walks :-(. What with Xmas and all, we've not had a walk now for almost a month, so REALLY hoping the weather isn't too bad next week when we next get a chance. I DID get a chance to shoot up into the fields above Haddon hall to get some nice shots of it in the sun (which I failed to do on our last walk as the weather wasn't very good). And over towards Chatsworth.

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Sunday, 30 October 2011. Lakes, part three. This is the deadly one - Fly Agaric. There were other flowers around too, some real surprises for us. I snapped this orchid. And, amazingly, a newly-flowering foxglove - in OCTOBER! This weather really was playing havoc with nature. We also called by Aira Force. Sue had seen this before, but I hadn't. With the night rains, it was quite spectacular. The top...

Peak Walks 2: April 2015

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Thursday, 30 April 2015. An evening 'stroll' - 7 1/2 miles. After having no choice but to go to Chesterfield during the day, we felt cheated of a walk on our day off. However, with the nights now drawing out, we decided to go out locally for the last three hours of daylight. I'd seen a picture posted on facebook of bluebells in Cumbria. 'That's strange', I thought, 'they're usually at least two weeks behind us'! Then, after crossing...

Peak Walks 2: August 2013

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Friday, 16 August 2013. A few sunset pictures. As were were headed over Monsal head top, we paused to admire yet another lovely sunset. We also stopped to look over the hill of Wardlow Hay Cop (370mtrs). The sun dips over the horizon, with Wardlow Hay Cop to the right. Stark pink and black. Now we're past the equinox, the sun is starting to set more and more left. See that tree right of centre? It sets BANG behind that on the equinox.

Peakwalks: June 2008

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Reef knolls and chips. We set off up the lovely cobbled alleyway towards the church and open fields. Sue and Dave chat as they walk through the flowery meadows. We soon crested the rise and saw High Wheeldon on the other side of the upper Dove dale. The young river Dove goes along this valley. The quiet woman - how so, I hear you ask? After refreshment, we set off towards the reef knolls of Parkhouse hill, (on left, behind us), then Chrome hill.

Peakwalks: January 2009

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Friday, 30 January 2009. We left Bakewell in the heavy mist, but with the glow of a blue sky slightly coming though. THIS was the sort of morning that showed promise! We planned to go up onto Kinder Scout, as we'd heard there was snow there last week, plus the weather man had said 'sunny all day'. I suppose we should know by now NOT to trust the weather man, but you like to believe, when it says what you want to hear, don't you? When we got to Castleton, it was MAGICAL!

Peakwalks: October 2008

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Sunday, 26 October 2008. Hail and hearty in Wildboarclough. A LOVELY DAY, said the weather forecast - and it looked nice (to begin with). This was the view as we drove towards Longnor. I suppose we should have suspected the weather man may have got it. Wrong when we saw this sky as we drove towards Roaches End to park the car, ready for this weeks walk around Wildboarclough. That 'lump' is Shutlingsloe, also known, rather grandly, as 'The Cheshire Matterhorn'. Just afte...

Walk a Little Differently

Walk A Little Differently. August 13, 2015, 5:39pm · 0 Comments. August 12, 2015, 5:34pm · 0 Comments. I fully intend to get some first-day-of-school photos and stories up soon. In the meantime, I’m catching up with my No Kids No Flowers challenge pictures. After we dropped the boys off at school for their first day, Clara and I headed to a park, where she drew on the sidewalks with chalk and threw pine needles in the water while I experimented with the shutter-priority setting on the camera.
