A selection of our favourite walks around Olney and further afield. Grand Union Canal Walk. Day Four: Blisworth to Cosgrove -10 miles. December 30, 2011. There wasn’t any variation in the weather today. One word. Drizzle. A seamless grey sky from one end to the other with the dampness making everything else look brown and drab. Amazing what a bit of sunshine can do to a place. Back on the canal the tourist trap that is S toke Bruerne. Tomorrow we have a choice. Stay purists and follow the canal into ...

A selection of our favourite walks around Olney and further afield. Grand Union Canal Walk. The oldest post mill in the Country? May 21, 2012. The mill is now a listed building and is now one of the few surviving examples of a timber post mill. The structure had to be turned by the miller, using the tail pole at the rear, so the sails always face the wind. What makes it special? From → 5-10 miles. Larr; Hollington Wood Map. Walking the Great Glen Way. Fort William to Inverness. April 11, 2012. Day Six: Drumnadrochit to Inverness – 19 miles. It’s the last day into Inverness and by far the most challenging. After making it to the castle your feet, legs and brain know you’ve walked 79 miles. It’s a good feeling, full of achievement and memories, topped with the knowledge that you don’t have to do it tomorrow! Last view of Loch Ness. The first half of the climb is the steepest, but also the prettiest following a windy path thro...
Fiddlers Drumnadrochit | Walking the Great Glen Way
https://thegreatglenway.wordpress.com/2012/04/09/fiddlers-drumnadrochit
Walking the Great Glen Way. Fort William to Inverness. April 9, 2012. Drumnadrochit is a very long town, so do your research and pick your accommodation well. When you first come off the hills you reach the town of Lewiston, which merges imperceptibly into Drumnadrochit. The Loch Ness Inn. Seduced by their eccentric website and the promise of a 600 choice whisky bar. And it ticks most of the boxes. A spacious, cosy room for two. That said, unusually my research missed a trick. The Benleva Hotel. You are ...

Walking the Great Glen Way. Fort William to Inverness. April 8, 2012. Lang Dearg Studios and Glenmoriston Arms. Is virtually the first building you come to as you tumble off the hill. Most comfortable bed award. As we reached the town early, we treated ourselves to lunch at Glen Rowan Restaurant. 8216;Restaurant’ may be a little too grand a description, but it is a mighty fine cafe, that served up a first class bowl of tomato soup and a very welcome bottle of Heather Ale to wash it down with. Prize is an...

Walking the Great Glen Way. Fort William to Inverness. April 10, 2012. Kings Street Apartment and Fabulous Steak – Inverness. As far as I can tell, the accommodation in Inverness is a little overpriced. Standard hotels, guest houses and B&Bs at boutique prices. After 6 days and 78 miles, I don’t mind spoiling myself, but if I’m spending 90 plus I do expect to be spoilt! It took a lot of routing around before finding the King Street Apartment. Living area and sunny window. An 8oz rib-eye steak for 16....

Get fit for walking, get fit by walking. Laquo; Training in the great outdoors. Posted February 1, 2011 by fitforwalking in Gym fit. First real session at the gym yesterday at 7am (I’m not a morning person, this is going to be tough). First I took a stroll on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Big hills, fast pace, but walking is second nature – I can do that whilst still asleep! It was tempting to fall asleep there on the soft mats, but I suspect Glen would have noticed! Walking From Budapest to Vienna
Walking From Budapest to Vienna. Wednesday, 6 April 2016. At 53 years old I will find it hard enough alone. It will be exactly one year on from my chance encounter in Budapest with those refugees that I'll make this journey, and it seems fitting that I start from the same spot that I met the man with the sign. This is my tiny show of solidarity for those fleeing war, and perhaps a way of raising awareness in some small way for such a immense, huge problem. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Ben's journey from hell
Ben's journey from hell. Tuesday, December 19, 2006. Things to do from now till 1st March. 1 Go get my job. 3 Get more bartending skills. 4 Clock a few dives. 5 Go for physiotherapy. Posted by Make a difference @ 4:29 PM. Friday, December 08, 2006. I feel there's nothing wrong with the way I live, it is just the situation that I'm in that makes things difficult. The leg problem is something I cannot gripe about anymore, I need to accept my fate and live with the pain without thinking of it as a burden.

We all walk at some and point during the day and planning for pedestrians should be simple – it is about providing consistency and ensuring that all user can use the environment. Think of your local pedestrian environments and consider how they rank compared to the following criteria for pedestrian design. Unfortunately, historically the walking environment has been one of the most under invested...
