This was one of very few sunny days and there had been a sprinkling of snow overnight. The walk covered a lot of local ground under the best possible conditions.

This was the first really warm spring-like day this year,. And we wanted to follow the Ebbw Valley Walk. We first re-visited Cox's Quarry, and were pleased to find the steep ascent. Was being used and not overgrown. However after that the Ebbw Valley route was completely impassable. Mainly due to bracken and possibly bramble, so we enjoyed Mynydd y Lan,. And then crossed the Sirhowy Valley to return along the ridge route and over Mynydd Machen.

We did come back, and spent an hour clearing the path. Before a most spectacular walk due to a fresh fall of snow on the hills. It was also a most interesting area around both Black and Red Darren. We returned overlooking Llanthony Abbey and the Honddu Valley.

An easy walk but excellent for a dull day, from Lower Redbrook,. Following the vally to Newland, and then through the woods,. Where we saw lots of wild boar tracks, to Staunton, the Buck Stone and Meend Common,. And returning through more forest and via Upper Redbrook to the start. Some very fresh wild boar footprints.

Walk Wales with CHA - Cardiff
This is a Cardiff-based CHA program for walks on the second Tuesday of every month. It is a small group and the walks tend to be fairly challenging, but not long distance. The cost of joining the CHA and being included on the mailing list is 8, but all are welcome. Walkers should contact the leader to find out about meeting arrangements which will be in Llanishen.
